Just hoping to get a rough idea of when my son might ship off to boot camp. He is going into the Nuclear program, and swore his oath at the end of January. His contract date was 4/27, but he was told that was almost certain to get pushed out.

He did get a text from someone (not sure whom) that said it was going to be January. He is also hearing it won't be that long. I just wanted to get an idea of what the average wait time would be these days.

I'm not looking for a specific date, but just a rough time frame. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Thank you both for the responses. They are very helpful!

  • We are right there with you Karl. My son enlisted in Oct with a 4/2 report date for boot camp and Nuke school to follow. There was an issue with his fingerprints in Dec and he was delayed with no estimated ship date...
  • Typically, unless something comes up like a security clearance issue or something like that, the date on their contract is the day they will go. Obviously that has come and gone. Over the last several years, though, there has been a backup in the Nuke training pipeline due to the availability of Prototypes. Students were graduating Power School and then waiting around for sometimes longer than 6 months before starting Prototype. To my knowledge, the situation hasn't gotten any better since I got out in late 2014. This may be the reason he got delayed.
