  • Our son arrived late on Saturday after PIR. Classed up a week from the following Monday. First few days involved his in-doc processing, so he really didn't wait too long.
  • My son is in there'd week of boot camp and then on to Pensacola to school.l hope he gets in a class right away and not wait 3 weeks
  • My son had to wait about 3 weeks or so before actual IT classes started. In the interim I think he did a little bit of everything and not much of anything!  A lot of introductory stuff and then some "make do" stuff.  He also stayed in temporary housing about 4 weeks until he moved into official permanent housing for the IT school.

  • My son's PIR was Friday. it was great to see him and get to spend some time with him. He has really matured beyond what i had imagined he would in just 8 weeks. Now he is in Pensacola waiting to class up. What do they normally have the Seaman do while waiting to class up? Just curious......

  • Looks like my son will be there during the Christmas season.  Does anyone know if they will be granted any type of liberty for Christmas, and if so, how long?  I think Christmas is on a Thursday this year.

  • I think my son had to wait a few weeks before being allowed to bring his vehicle on base. He arrived there last September 16th and we drove his car down to him from Long Island for Thanksgiving. While down there, he traded in his car for a new car and I flew down this past March when he graduated and took the drive back up to Long Island with him. He was assigned shore duty in Norfolk for 2 years, so he just drove from Long Island to Norfolk.

  • Well, my son arrived yesterday evening at Pensacola for IT A School training.  I assume he is at Corry Station, although he hasn't confirmed that with me yet.  We attended his graduation on Friday at RTC and then he shipped out at 1:30am to the airport.  He is wondering if he would be allowed to have a car while at A School here.  Can anyone who knows comment on that for me?

  • Yes, Jared, I think that's what they say. I will know more once he gets there. He was supposed to be home until the 27th, but he is leaving early tomorrow morning. A few of his buddies are already there and he is getting bored at home. Too cold and not much to do, so he figured he's better off not wasting his leave time.

  • Bob,

His orders say ONI SP Norfolk, VA? If so, he is headed to a good command. It will take some work, but he can advance while he is there. Especially once he has his EIDWS (Information Dominance Pin).

  • So I flew down to Pensacola last Sunday (March 9th), My son graduated on March 10th, then we drove back up to Long Island together. It was nice to spend some time with him on the way home. He will be home until March 27th, then he heads down to Virginia. He will be there for 2 years. He says he'll be working at the ONI for the NSA.. or something to that effect. He'll only be about 8 hours from home, which is great!

Frequency Spectrums ~ The easy way

Years ago, I wanted to help our sailors by sharing little sayings that I learned in the fleet to remember really hard stuff.  I'm an extremely lazy person and the easier I can get  something done, the better.   I wanted to pass my knowledge onto the sailors on my website so they can learn the tricks that I had to  teach myself through the Craig's Home School of Hard Knocks...  I made "Vets Helping Sailors" my key name because  I wanted other Vets to help me, but it didn't pan out. Here is one…
