  • Brothers,

Got this from another brother, thought it was inspiring and thought I would pass this along.

Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says "Oh Crap, he's up!" Brother, life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Love the ones who don't, just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it.
  • Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the surging wave,
    Who biddeth might oceans deep,
    Their own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we call to thee
For those in peril on the sea.

  • Brothers,
I hope all are well. We've been snowed in in downtown DC for three days and nights. Probably get home tonight.
It occurred to me that all of our lodges have old folks that might be really in trouble with this mess. If you are in one of the snowy areas, please check on your people.
  • My son's at BS 21 tonight. Can't wait for morning.
  • Great John,
The contact there has been the Chaplain onboard U.S.S. Carl Vinson, but that ship's been relieved, so we're looking for a new one. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to send letters to the several thousand sailors and marines on the Carl Vinson for that matter. They've been out there quite a while and done really good work. I'll keep you informed.
  • Will be presenting it tonight
  • How 'bout passing this idea to your lodges, etc?
  • O.K.

To kick off this thing, we each have to take ownership of a piece of it. The point of the project is to send a heap of letters to our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guards who are serving off the Coast of Haiti. They are witnessing extremes that many of us know not, and need any pick-me-up they can get.

As Art Linkletter proved over and over, "Kids say the Darndest Things," and can lift the spirits of all but the most cynical of us.

Albert Pike said that Freemasonry can be the greatest force for peace on earth. Peace is more than an absence of war. Our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guards in Haiti are working to restore peace to a people who have known little of it, particularly now.

    * Each of our Lodges is independent, and in this project will remain so, except that we will be working toward the same end, and will unite our efforts and the fruits of our efforts in an outpouring of support both for our people serving in Haiti, and for the Haitian People.

    * Each Lodge should contact their local school(s) and/or churches, and enroll the students to write a short note to a Sailor, a Marine or a Coast Guard. We can't pick a particular ship or unit, because there are too many there.

    * A Chaplain on Board the U.S.S. Carl Vinson will recieve the packages of letters and notes, and distribute them. He will give priority to men and women who need them most, such as folks getting no mail from outside.

    * Each package should include that it is from (Fill in the Blank) Lodge, No. (?) of the Grand Lodge of (Fill in the Blank), and from Molly's Adopt a Sailor Project (this bit will alert the chaplain)
You can include contact information for your Lodge and Grand Lodge as well.

    * I'll post the address for mailing as soon as Southern Command has agreed on an address. Things are still up in the air about mail and such.

This will be a blessing for our people, and our agreement must be that we will get more out of it than we put into it! Doing well by doing good. Harmony is important to all organizations, especially to such as ours, and especially in such times.

    Fraternally,
    Steve Brettell,

  • Doesn't sound bad, My wife does alot with Molly's program.
  • I'm on Molly's Adopt a Sailor Program on Navy 4 Moms. They have brought up the point that there are now 22 ships deployed to Haiti, many of them leaving immediately following their last deployment, and some, like the Comfort, on 24 hours notice. The Comfort is based in my Backyard, so many of the people aboard are my neighbors.
Molly is trying to get people to write letters to these Sailors and Marines.
It seems to me that Lodges could sponsor such a program in their area. Contact the other Masons, contact the schools, encourage the Kids to write, and gather the letters.
I can come up with mailing information from Molly's site.
    Whata ya think, brothers?

Welcome Brothers

I'm a Freemason in the Grand Lodge of Maryland, and the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia. Scottish Rite and York Rite as well. So is my Seaman Recruit Son and Brother, James. I believe that we as Freemasons have a special bond and ability to support one another through proud moments and scarey ones. Through happiness and sadness. That's why we're there. We also share this additional brotherhood. Our loved ones are Sailors. Most of us in the U.S. Navy, but maybe some from elsewhere. I…
