As bad as things are - when you look at the total debt 2016 and beyond, it won't matter what your politics are - it isn't going to work. No matter how much you take from the "1%", it's not going to support the "47% (?)" that aren't paying taxes. Anybody speak chinese?
To continue beating the sequestration horse a little more, here's this nugget from Commentary magazine (online version and emphasis added):
These cuts to the military are part of sequestration, intended to make a dent in deficit spending. Will risking “hollowing out” the military at least get our budget issues under control? No, it won’t. As Philip Klein writes over at the Washington Examiner, the Congressional Budget Office’s newest 10-year spending forecast expects federal annual tax receipts to increase by 65 percent, revenue as a share of the overall economy to increase, spending on social security to go up by 67 percent, spending on federal health programs to balloon by 94 percent, and defense spending to increase 20 percent over that time period, bringing overall defense spending as a share of the federal budget below the historical average. Klein concludes:
Sequestration is not about cutting “waste, fraud and abuse” or improving the efficiency of the U.S. military. It is about raiding a piggy bank to pay (unsuccessfully) for an ever-expanding welfare state, to which the president’s health-care reform legislation will only add as costs continue to rise, premiums increase, Medicaid rolls are expanded, and insurance consumers are shoved off of employer health plans and into government-subsidized exchanges. The result will be a nation even more deeply in debt but now also, thanks to the president’s bright idea, far less able to defend itself from threats and less able to do its part on behalf of global stability and security.
And then, there's this headline and story: Down to One Middle East Carrier--here's the link: http://news.usni.org/2013/02/06/down-to-one-middle-east-carrier
My earlier posting was from USAF; take this link to read something that is entirely Navy-related--the headline ought to get your attention: Navy: Lincoln Refueling Delayed, Will Hurt Carrier Readiness-- see this link http://news.usni.org/2013/02/08/navy-lincoln-refueling-delayed-will... .
Awfully quiet here lately; what, nobody cares anymore?
Read this (from my Air Force Association email inbox) and reflect, if you will, upon your vote in the November election.
AFA members, as we get closer to March 1st, we approach our #1 enemy – namely ourselves. Without Congressional and Presidential action, automatic budget cuts – called
sequestration – of $1.2 Trillion will kick in. The amount of the reduction in the defense budget will be about $55B a year until 2021 with 42.7B in the remaining seven months of this year. This cut will be on top of the $50B per year reduction that has already occurred. The Air Force share of this hit is $12.4B over the seven months remaining in the Fiscal Year.
The short-term effects are devastating. Up to 800,000 DOD employees could be put on a four-day work week starting in April resulting in reduced pay for each person. Flight hours will have to be reduced by a third, weapon system sustainment by as much as 18% and aircraft availability and mission capable rates will fall significantly. The impact nationally according to a 2012 study by Dr. Stephen Fuller at George Mason University is 2 million jobs lost. I cannot find one example where we cut defense to this degree while, at the same time, fighting a
war. I frequently remind people the Preamble to the Constitution says “ … provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare …” And, in reality, the verbs (at least here in Washington) seem to be swapped. We need to have our
voices heard on the effects of sequestration and the ongoing continuing resolution on our national defense and military readiness. Secretary Panetta stated as a result of sequestration, “instead of being a first rate power in the world, we’d turn into a second rate power.” It is irresponsible to let this
happen after so much sacrifice.
It seems likely, don't you think fellow Navy Dads, that the Navy will suffer similarly--our sons and daughters will feel the effects of Mr. Obama's sequestration plan.
Okay--- this is pretty funny-
President Obama says that Hurrican Sandy was the result of a video posted on youtube denying global warming and defaming the prophet Al Gore. It was NOT the action of three storms converging.
He has asked the FBI to arrest the maker of this disgusting vile video and says the United States will not tolerate free speech that offends true believers.
Here's my question. Has an independent counsel been appointed to investigate the series of unfortunate events in Benghazi that left four Americans dead?
Drone real time videos and eye witness accounts on the ground as it was unfolding. There's gotta be a communications paper trail no doubt. How much farther can you spin the facts?
