Here's how those percentages are categorized...
AFQT Categories
The military divides AFQT scores into the following categories. The lower your category number, the more attractive candidate you are to the military for enlistment:
The AFQT score is a percentile score. What does that mean? In 1997, a study, known as the "Profile of American Youth," was conducted by the Department of Defense in cooperation with the Department of Labor. DOD administered the ASVAB to around 12,000 individuals, ranging in age from 16 to 23. Your AFQT score is a comparison of how well you scored on the four subtests, compared to those who took the ASVAB as part of the 1997 survey. In other words, if you have an AFQT score of 70, that means you scored as well or better than 70 percent of those 12,000 folks.

Thanks Jack. If there's another format the recruiters are going by we need that info so we can update this page. I might stop by my local recruiting office to see if I can get this info. But it's awesome to hear his options are across the board. From what I've seen on this website, the Nuke program is a very hard school to get complete. It's the version of becoming a SEAL but mentally instead of physically. I believe the drop out rate is very high. If they cannot get through Nuke school they are forced to choose another rate.
His next task is to get scheduled for the physical examination and testing to see if he is fit enough to move forward. Then, as I understand it, he meets with a Classification Specialist who helps him select a Rating and get a contract together.
I'll see if I cans dig up some kind of a score conversion table that translates the raw scores to a percentile for these various categories.
