Must be some kind of Top Secret military installation, like Area 51, where they take our kids..... Never to be heard from again!
I hope not.
The Military Entrance Processing Station is the place he went to write the ASVAB and today he went back there at 0-dark-30, for the Physical Examination. My understanding is that sometimes this can all be accomplished with one trip, but for my son it was on two different days. In each case he had to report to the Recruiter's office, and the Recruiter had to drive him down for the appointment at MEPS.
Today he met the Recruiter at 0430 and was told to expect to be gone all day. I have no idea what kind of Physical would take a whole day, but I'll get back to you on his experience. He'd been given a list of things to do beforehand, (shower, clean your ears, etc) and not to do (drink, smoke, etc) as well as what to wear and what not to wear, but little info on what to expect today. As I understand it, normally- with ASVAB completed and provided one passes the Physical without needing any waivers of any kind, the next thing would be a meeting with the Classification Officer, to choose your rate. Since My son is choosing Aircrew and wants to be a Rescue Swimmer, he would have to pass a PST (Physical Screening Test) before he is offered a contract with the Navy that guarantees him the opportunity.
The Recruiter offered to come over to the house after today to discuss the contract with us and further explain the process.
I'll keep y'all posted!

Quick update... Tyler studied harder, and finally passed the ear exam today. This means he is cleared to go back to MEPS to have the physician sign-off and clear him for the PST. He'll take it for the first time on Monday-- hoping this leads to a contract to become a Rescue Swimmer.
Jack, great story. Good for all to know and am thinking he will hear about the physical many times in the future. When ever your wife or you are down or worried just think about that story and smile knowing everything will work itself out.
LoL - no problem. I'm learning so much as I go, happy to pass it along for others. Maybe they can avoid a few missteps that we've made.
Like today, for example. My wife is mortified, and as shocked as I was-- it's a little bit humorous so I'll share it. My son did NOT pass the physical today. The only reason to share this is so that someone else might benefit, so here goes... I have to add a caveat here. My son swims and works out everyday, and showers afterwards, so he isn't "icky." --which is why I was so surprised to get the news he did not pass his physical examination with flying colors. He's also been taught proper hygiene, or shame on me, right?
Well, when given his exam report today, he was told he had an obstructed ear that he will have to go have cleaned at a doctor, have the doc complete a form and sign, and then return to MEPS for a recheck. Trust me, he cleaned his ears beforehand, knowing they would be checked... We had no idea that a thorough job with Q-tips was not thorough enough! They told him that Q-tips just push the wax (ewww) further into the ear, and so a medical cleaning is required. I guess he could have tried an ear cleaning kit beforehand, to have tried to do a better job, but now a visit to a doctor is required, along with the form mentioned.
So let this be a lesson to all.... Clean yer ears! - And if you think they are clean, Clean 'em again! And then, if you're anything like my boy-- Call Roto-Rooter and have them cleaned professionally BEFORE heading to MEPS for your physical.
So now the big joke is.... Hey Buddy.... Is yer ear (your rear) clean now????
Some lessons are best kept private.... But not when you're a Navy Dad (like me). Chuckle.
