It is nice to that the transformation is not as bad as it was when I went through it!! Whew! For awhile there, I was wondering why I would subject my kid to the same torments I went through almost 25 years ago!
Yea, Dylan said there's ALWAYS a lot of arguing and yelling amongst the SRs and no one is getting along. He said "I just keep quiet and follow orders so I don't get in trouble." Good to hear our boys are doing well, eh?
Hey Jeff, Kevin got a couple phone calls yesterday as well. I missed mine, somehow, phone just showed up with a missed call from a 847 area code, I was pissed it didn't even ring! However, I did get two more letters from him. From what I heard everyone in the DIV got sick lately, that is pretty normal. Kevin had his wisdom teeth pulled Monday, but has apparently recovered. At least he got a couple days off! He said they get up at 0315 in the morning and don't get to bed till around 2200. Again, that is normal. Thats what I remembered doing. From Navymoms, a mom of another SR in DIV 264 or 265 said that 267 is always in trouble! Ha! Ha! My bet is that the RDC is running them ragged now so that by week 5 or 6 their work is done! By week 5 the DIV is running itself and the RDC can work somewhat "normal" hours. Kevin said to keep the letters coming, they get mail everyday now and he LOVES to hear his name called. Kevin also passed his swimming test and his PT test last week, he says he is doing pretty good, he is a Section Leader and he sound like he is in good spirits.
Hey Patrick, we got a phone call from Dylan this evening, around 1730. It got cut short when he said, "Ut oh! Some one must have screwed up, I hear yelling! Oh ok...hey I gotta go!" Oh well.
Before he hung up I was able to ask him if he met "Patterson" yet and he said that he had! He laughed because he said your son told him that you were talking to one of the other SR's dad as well. I assumed he meant via NavyDads.
In any event, he's doing really well. Passed his 3rd Class and 2nd Class swimming requirements last week. One of only six from 4 divisions to do so that day! All those years of club and high school swimming paid off! LoL
Short as the call was, it was sure nice to hear his voice. He sounded tired...but excited.
We are thinking since we are in FL that maybe the mail takes another day or two. I will be dying to post something once I get a letter, so you will be among the first to know! I imagine the boys are getting wore out about now, the first week or two are always the worst. Not much sleep, and constant go go go...with about a million things to remember and another million things to learn. It brings back memories for me, some good, mostly I remember being dog tired all the time. HA HA!!
Hey we finally got a couple of letters yesterday, one for the Little brother and one to "The Family". Apparently, he LOVES the food there! Says he's doing well now that they've started the real training. And he's doing real good with the PT. Even sounds like he's enjoying that too. He was a year round competitive swimmer for almost 10 years so he's used to training hard.
Dylan graduated HS back on May 26th. Unfortunately, we don't get to have him here for the Big One. He won't turn 18 until Aug. 2nd. Just more reason to celebrate when we see him at PIR, right?
Dylan left us on June 27th, the day after my other son's 12th birthday. He and four other local Future Sailors spent the night up in Indianapolis before reporting to MEPS the next EARLY morning, June 28th.
In any event, hang in there. Hope you hear from Kevin soon.
No, I haven't seen any mail from him yet. Wish we had though. I was thinking they may have had a couple hours free time this past Sunday to write a letter or two, but knowing my kid he probably wrote his girlfriend and not the parental units. HA HA!! Will check with her tomorrow. Kevin graduated from high school on June 1st and turned 18 on June 2nd, went to boot camp June 28th. Which happens to be the day after my birthday!

Hey Patrick,
Have you received any mail from your son Kevin yet? Other than the form with all the PIR info and stuff? BTW, how old is your son?
Jeff
