Yeah it's been a whirlwind 5 years she has been with LHA 6 since pre-deployment days. It's alot of hard work, long hours, and underways through the last couple of years for them to get ready for the 1st deployment. Those 12+ hour days 6 days a week only include when they aren't underway which is probably half the time, getting everything tested and all the qualifications. She sure has earned that plank owner title!
As you should support her decision.
Good luck to her what ever she decides!
It's not 100% about the $ but when she realized it wasn't gonna be there, she started thinking about finishing college. She has been serving for over 5 years, in that time she has taken a total of 1 class online. They work 12 hours a day 6 days a week, she just hasn't had time to take more than that. Before she signed up she had 1.5 years of college under her belt. Now she is planning on getting out and finishing college. If they weren't offering $0.00 even a small bonus she would have stayed in. This is the US Navy loss and I just don't understand it but I'm going to support her no matter what.
Phil, I hope it's not just about the money for her. A re-enlistment bonus is nice, but it's not a guarantee. Maybe the other CTTs got a different deal when they enlisted. CTT is a tough rate and trust me, it's a rate that is needed. Not everyone can do it. I would hope that she doesn't get discouraged.
Sort of bummed out on some news. A year ago at RIMPAC Hawaii my sailor was still loving serving in the USNavy and planning to extend after her 6 years, for another 4 years. Now she is home and her plans have changed, she will be getting out in a year. The reason is what hit me, they didn't offer her any incentive to extend beyond her 6 years. She says the other CTT's she knows got 30k when their 6 years was up. Is there any chance that could change? Or does it mean the USNavy just doesn't need this rate at this time going forward?
Finally framed the Commissioning poster that my sailor got for me
Probably long over due but some photos from the Tiger Cruise. My son Patrick and I standing guard while CWIS was down.
We had an amazing time in San Francisco. And I was lucky enough to go on the Tiger Cruise too. I'm working on a blog that I will post here at Navy Dads where I'll share some pics and video.
