Just a navy Mom - with 5 children and son currently deployed. He is now an officer, who has been in for 13 years come July. I am not able to offer up much as to what my son does or where he is - as to protect both him and his unit, other than he is in the "sandbox", as I was told to refer to it as... It only reminds me of when he was in OCS and would tell us of the push up the Master Sargent would have them do - in the "sandbox" - where the cats on the base would often be found lurking around! OOOh Ick! Can you only imagine! Push ups in the cats litter box! Little did I know back then - that the Term "sandbox" would one day bring a smile to my face - when I would most need it! Takes the mothers mind off the worrying about son! At first I was bothered by this - not being able to share and brag as most parents want to - but in reality - it is for their protection first and foremost. I am one off the up most proud parents - of my son's chosen career with the Navy and the Man he has become.

What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:

At first it was the normal fear - but that quickly erased and went to the way side. We all were filled with great PRIDE of the Career Path our Son chose, and still chooses today. He has been with the Navy for going on 13 years. Beginning with DEP - the beginning of his Sr year in High School. Followed by Officer Candidate School in 2004.

Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72).     Becky, Welcome Aboard! I'm so glad to have the Navy Moms on here to keep us men in line. My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. We have many moms on the site and benefit greatly from their point of views and we are willing to help the moms in any way we can. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy.
