Feb 8th graduation.

I just got the second call (the "I'm OK" call) from my son in Ship 14 DIV 093. We only had 6 minutes, but it was great to hear from him! He mentioned that he may ship out to A school right after graduation and our time may be limited before he leaves. Anyone else hear that? I was under the impression that he would have at least a day with us to hang out within 50 miles of the base.

  • Dustin, We got the " I'm a Sailor call late this afternoon around 4:30est. ship 03 div.091

  • Did anyone get the third call today? My wife said that others in the FEB 8 groups are getting calls...
  • Charles- did the recruiter actually say "leave" or did he say "time off"? Sometimes when new sailors head to A school they must wait to class-up. This may take several days to several weeks depending on their new rate. During this time there is not much to do but go through in doc and get used to the new command. Your recruiter may have been a bit liberal and described this as time off since they are not in classes. Compared to boot camp it could be considered time off. LOL
  • Amen to that!!
  • it's like buying a car...if it's not on paper, it doesn't mean much.....

  • Unfortunately I am finding that this is not the first thing that the recruiter told me that isn't exactly correct.....but more my issue than my son's. He is ready to get after it!
  • never have heard about anyone getting leave after boot camp except if PIR is right at Christmas/New Years....it's off to A-school where they may have to wait for several weeks to class-up, but that's the way it is

  • My son will not be heading to boot camp until May 1. The responses about A school are very puzzling based on what we were told by his recruiter. We were very specifically told he gets 2 weeks at home after boot camp and before A school.
  • It all depends on their Watch schedule and A school. They generally ship out within 24 hours after PIR. Our daughter had to be back to the base by 6pm after PIR because she had a watch that evening and did not want to be late. She was originally scheduled to fly out for A school at 2am that next morning so we did not plan to see her after we dropped her off. She called later and told us that her flight was changed so we got to have breakfast the next morning before she had to leave for A school. Fortunately we planned to spend the whole day just to be safe.

Plan for anything and expect nothing. The needs of the Navy dictate everything.
  • ....but you can be with him at the airport until he flies out.....
