I need some sage advice!

I need some advice! My son is at RTC currently in Ship 5. He was RCPO and led his division to BS21 but was not fit to compete. He was diagnosed as having Mono and they are currently trying to separate him. His spleen was twice its normal size but has returned to its original size. He has met with legal and all of his test scores were excellent but this happened two days before BS21. He wants to stay but is being told to go home and re-enlist. that would mean that RTC would go from 8 weeks to 13 weeks and he would have to pay for all sorts of tests etc....... What do you all think he should do? He is a great kid and more than qualified???? Please advise!!

  • I wish your son swift recovery, everything that I have read says that if your son does separate for medical reasons while in training, when he does return he will be placed in training exactly where he left off. Perhaps that will help your son.

My son is there right now too. The information that I have gotten from my son assure me that the conditions are less than optimal for any type of recovery from mono,

~GET HIM HOME ASAP!    ONLY OTC medications are given ( see FAQs http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil)

  • He has signed the hippa and the form so we can talk with legal.

  • David, I'm so sorry to hear this. First of all, here is a link to our ship 5 group.

Make sure that he signs a HIPPA waiver so that the medical people can talk to you about his condition. Honestly, he would be better off just leaving RTC for now, and go back later when he's 100% healthy. In the Ship 5 group you will find a chart of re-enlistment codes. Just make sure that his code will allow him to re-enlist.

    Jim
