Missed Phone Call from Boot Camp...

This afternoon my son called and I missed his call by seconds. By the time I picked up, I was too late. I feel horrible! Today I'd say is one of the crappiest days of my life. I can't help but to blame myself.

He did get a hold of his mother and from what she tells me he's a bit emotional from being away from home cause he misses us all. Otherwise, he's doing fine in boot camp. That made me feel happy and sad all at once.

So for all you folks out there who are expecting a call from your SR, please don't miss the call!...

  • Ray, I know the feeling all too well but don't worry she will have the opportunity to call you again. Write to her as often as possible and let her know what happened. Keep an eye out for that (847) Area Code...

  • i missed a call from my wife yesterday. she called 7 times, and i was doing a tattoo with the music turned up. And I didnt check my phone, until 2 mins after her last call. I felt horrible. because i know that she is very emotional, she will cry. probably cry about it all night. i hope that she gets to call again for christmas.

  • From RTC's Website:

Because of the structured nature of recruit training, your recruit will not be able to contact you regularly. Your recruit is given a short phone call upon arrival to let you know that he or she arrived safely. Your recruit will also be given phone calls from time to time throughout training as a reward for outstanding performance. Your recruit's primary means of communicating with family and friends is via the US mail. We highly encourage you to write your recruit as often as you like. Recruits will receive your letters throughout the week but can only respond to them during "holiday routine," on Sunday mornings and non-training days.

  • I am not a fan of the communication situation. It is hard for all of us. I am blessed and have talked to Sailorette twice. She knows I have a lot of energy to burn so she wants me to play as much hockey as possible. I am afraid if I do I may miss a call. It would be nice to know at least which day to expect a call.

I am finding if you follow enough boards the TGs tend to call about the same time. I wonder if this can be tracked and we can kinda have heads up. Or perhaps someone around her knows the frequency.

  • Aw :( yeah he will be but he might get a break in between from what I've seen. It still will be fantastic seeing him at his PIR :) Hang in there Gary, it will be here soon!

  • Theresa, same here when my cel phone rang I knew it was my son judging from the area code on the caller ID. I have a bad habit of doing my homework way ahead of time. Ahem, I dropped the call I was currently on a land line with a client but by the time I reached for my cel to answer it, it was too late... :(

His A school will be in Pensacola, FL and according to the RTC's website he will ship out the next day which is Saturday. I'm pretty sure this is the case since my nephew http://ning.it/qSAfAU who is an AO went through the same deal...

  • I feel for you Gary. That was me too :( I was so upset at myself because I was busy at work when he called my cell. I just never thought he'd call so soon since he borrowed someone's cell phone while  he was waiting for his flight out of Hickam AFB. Don't worry though he'll call again :) Just wait if his A school is in GL you'll be very happy. You'll have the entire weekend with him. He will have to be back by 10pm but I'd make it 9pm since it's a long walk back to the barracks. However, you can pick him up as early as 7am the next morning. At least that's how it worked for my son when he had his PIR 9-23-11.

Oh an Mr. Sailorette- If she has 1 drink and is caught doing so her liberty will be revoked immediately. So if she was able to have liberty all weekend, she will lose it right there and then. Same thing goes for if they are late. My son was never worried about being late or not drinking, he was more focused on how he looked. Was his hat on straight? Was his belt buckle in line with his buttons/zipper. Did he forget to put his hat on after exiting a building. I'm sure your sailorette will be the same way.

  • Nope...it's not cool..........

  • Mr. Sailorette here is the link for Liberty Rules.

  • No doubt it will be a chapter in our lives with a series of emotions compared to no other. I can't wait... And for sure we'll abide by liberty rules :)
