We are confused about how long is A school, he is a ABE, his recruit said school in pensacola was about 5 months thats why he had to sign for 5 years. We are reading that school is only 5 weeks? Can any one clarify this?

  • Thanx Dean, that makes sense , also since he signed up for an extra year.

  • Hey Dennis, having gone through AE school which lasted 7 months, I would have to say 5 months is probably correct, as an ABE he will be learning not only the specifics of launching and recovering aircraft, but will also have to learn some physics, hydraulic systems, steam systems, electrical systems as they apply to his rate, and AC handling plus he will probably have to go through AFUNP which is aviation fundamentals, the P means it's a P class school. 5 weeks is not long enough for all that information, the Navy does a good job of keeping the classes moving, and some are self paced with lots of computer time, so sailors who are good in certain areas can actually get done with their classes faster.

but that is not to say that he won't be on hold for several months - it is not uncommon
