My girlfriend's bunk mate was caught with liquor locked up in her closet during a health and wellness inspection received a 341 and will have to report in front of the Master Chief on Monday. We were all going to go out on leave together for the holidays. Both of the girls are old enough to drink, and weren't intoxicated. Any idea what may happen? I really am hoping that they don't get stuck on base.

  • there usually is Nigel....

  • It also would not surprise me that there was more to the story then what I was told, there seem to be quite a few inconsistencies with what is going on out there and what I am being told.

  • Agree completely. I guess I just was not sure if this was a case of not knowing it was there or overlooking it.
  • right or wrong they live under an honor code....just sayin'.  It is these sorts of moral dilemmas that prove the point about the best way to solve a problem is to prevent it from becoming a problem

  • My son just graduated from college and sowed the wild oats there (had a 2.135 GPA to prove it!!). He needed a 2.7 to get directly into OCS. He scored a 245 on the ASVAB and really is a bright kid. He wants to get into OCS someday. I believe he understands what he needs to do. What is a bit scary is that Nigel's GF really wasn't directly involved in the alcohol incident. In retrospect, if a roommate would violate the rules, what is the incumbent responsibility of the person? Does he/she need to go directly to his/her CO?
  • My daughter had an issue just before completion of A-school and ended up at mast...Kat was lucky as she "blew" a 0.000 and she did lose an assignment to Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily. Others she was with were discharged from the Navy.  Keep your nose clean and and don't do anything stupid is the advice here.

  • Another thing they did I guess as punishment even though she was top in her class they did not honor her duty station request they sent her to what her CM 1 and other higher ups refer to as the worst possible duty station with a bad batallion. I'm only quoting her on this though. I have a friend who's son did not do well in school as soon as he finished he was immediately sent to Guam. Again I'm only repeating what I've been told.

  • They had to go to Captain's mast. Charles to show you how serious this could have been here are the worst case scenarios and then I'll share with you what really happened. They could have lost their jobs and gotten kicked out of the NAVY, absolute worst case scenario. What they faced were 1 rank demotion, 2 months without pay up to 90 days restriction no contact basically go to school and stay in their room isolated, if they really wanted to be hard they could have sent them to batallion without finishing school "unassigned" meaning they wouldn't have a specific rate and would have lowly jobs like swabbing the deck and painting. Then would have to wait another year if they were accepted to go back and restart A school all over again and during this 1 year time frame they would not be eligible for promotion. In my girlfriend's case because it was not hers and she has been doing so well they showed a lot of mercy and put her on 5 days restriction all the other punishments suspended providing she stays out of trouble. I've heard so many horror stories of young sailors going crazy after boot camp for many it is their first time away from home, they act irresponsible, and are consumed with having fun with the little freedoms they gradually earn. I couldn't believe all the stories my girlfriend told me. Just warn him to be careful with the friends he makes and how he spends his free time. This early period they are being watched heavily and reccommendations are going to be based on performance as to where they will be sent for batallion, and the jobs they may have. It kinds of sets the stage for their careers.

  • My son is going to boot camp on May1 and would like to ensure he understands the ramifications. Could you share what the outcome was?
  • All depends on the Master Chief, I agree with Paul
