PIR Gift - daughter

So... what should we get our daughter as a PIR gift? She already has a kick*ss cellphone, camera, and laptop... Something useful (like I'd want) or something sentimental (like her mom'd want)? Clothes that she can't wear for a month or so at A-School (and we don't know if they'd fit)? Cold hard cash? That seems impersonal but always the right size and color! Something patriotic? Or from her favorite band? A fancy dinner in Chicago?

  • I bought my daughter a challenge coin with the Navy Values. I was not sure what she could take back to her ship. She did not leave for A school until Wednesday. We rented a place with a kitchen and she gave me a list of things she wanted me to make. On Satuday we went out to dinner and drove around the area and went to a mall. On Sunday, my daughters and I went to a matinee and then we bought pizzas and went to the room and watched more movies. I think just showing up for the graduation was the thing my daughter appreciated most.
  • That was exactly what Kat's mom did for her when she PIR'd....I spent the day with a high school bud of mine I hadn't seen since '70 that lived in the area with his family.

  • That sounds like something my daughter would love. Rick

  • My daughter really likes those prepaid Visa Cards!......The ones that they can use anywhere!.....The NEX has name brand stuff!......or they can use them at the Malls and on Michigan Avenue Stores too!....LOL!......At this age and time in life.....unno....they like to get their own stuff!......(Personally my daughter is not too sentimental about certain gifts!)....Yours might be, and that is great!...........so.........just throwin' in a suggestion!
  • we also did the watch thing for Eric (which was stolen last week.....)....there was a watch store in Gurnee mall two years ago and that was the only thing Eric really wanted.
  • Tom, Just a idea we bought our son a really nice watch they can take that back with them... I am sure anything you get she will treasure. They can also where a cross around there neck my son wore his the whole time he was there. My mother-in-law has a saying "May God Sail With Our Sailors"...Good luck Cindy
  • Its a great idea, only thing to remember that even after PIR unless she is a Grad and Go she has to go back to the boot camp barracks. She has to still comply with the bc rules and that basically means she can't take anything back to base with her. The only thing we did with my son over the PIR weekend was let him be in charge and decide what we were going to do, after 8 weeks of being told what to do figured it was a good break. We waited until he was in A school before we even considered giving/sending anything except hia cell/laptop which he got at the airport.
