My Grandson said he would do HW over again before he would even think about Pool Comp. The instructors get very upset when numbers or rolls or DOR's are posted, at least it was that way for Class 273. The guys got a lot of extra Runs and Push-up for numbers being posted. The instructor would call all the guy to the beach and read what was posted and the screen name of the poster and ask who knew the person. One time it took 4 days of running 5 miles before the Class got tired and told MMMMMM to tell the instructor the answers they did not want to run anymore.
Roj copy on # ie. OPSEC isues - thanks
I had heard the same #, but OPSEC suggests that we shouldn't be posting specific #'s, dates, etc. There are alot of comments in assorted SEAL books, posts ,etc. that many of the guys would rather repeat Hell Week than do Pool Comp.
Cul called on Friday very animated; 13 of 51 passed pool comp. Today and tomorrow the fellas that didn't pass will have another go at it. Stated that it was as tough or tougher than Hell-wk, bitter cold standing on pool deck in the rain ect...ect. OMG glad to be thru it. Looking fwd to open-ocean single hose dives later in the week and then on to Lar-V next week. Hoo-Ya Class 293 - work togther and stay healthy.
Don't know if any other dad's have heard from their guys re: pool comp. That was one of the things that our son thought he would do OK on, but ended up having some "sequence" problems. They get another go at it, and after some dirt diving this weekend, is hopeful. It is all about attention to detail.
HooYah 293!!!
Thanks for allowing me to join and am so very proud of all those that made it through HW and even those that DOR'd. I wish I had seen this site when my son first started in Coronado as I and wife on end of seat all week just wondering what the H was happening. I have read through all the pages and am up to speed. Thanks again for great info and allowing me in. We are so proud of our son and what he and 293 are doing for our country!
Russell, I think everyone that starts BUD/S training should be given a Certificate of Thanks for even starting this Class, very few even try and you cannot finish training if you do not start it.
I have talked to my Grandson and many members of his Class about training and while they were proud of finishing HW many have said that they would much rather repeat HW than the big test during Pool Comp (Phase II). There were 170+ that started 273 but after DOR's, drops and rollbacks there were less than 9 that graduated SQT 273. The fun is just starting. We were told at SQT Graduation the from the start of BUD/S to graduation the guys had swam the distance from Cuba to Florida and ran the distance from Miami to New York.
Did Class 293 have a HW Shirt and if so what did it say? Here is a link to the front of 273 HW Shirt.
HooYah BUD/S Class 293!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife has been reading the DOR postings on the NfM's site. They all seem to talk about the same issues - disappointment, uncertainty, and some - a sense of failure. Going from the high energy of BUDs to the propsects as an undesignated seaman is a huge adjustment in goals and future. We thought alot about that over the past few weeks - knowing some of the physical issues that Surf had already had - the real possibility of not making it thru Hell Week. While we are relieved that he survived HW, we will forever be thankful of all the guys that start this program, and for whatever reason, don't make it. They have all given part of themselves to our Country - for most, years of training - blood, sweat, and tears - in order to even begin the process - and all will continue to serve with honor. For those guys and their families that are still in it - HW seems like the end of the beginning. There will still be huge challenges, lumps & bumps in the road to the Trident, and the chance that more will be rolled, or DOR. I am thankful that there are so many young Americans willing to take on this challenge in pursuit of their goals. HooYah to all of them and the families that have nurtured these guys!!!!
Trying to welcome new members now since we have grown so Hello! to Joe and Noel C
HooYa Class 293!!!! We now are all, able to get some sleep, (much needed). Congrats to all that made it thru Hell; good luck to those that bowed out, the fleet will be gaining assets - no doubt. All of you are highly motivated individuals; we are all very proud.
