  • Our son finished his training in late November, came home for a couple weeks, then headed off to Pearl Harbor. He is assigned to the USS Paul Hamilton, DDG60. So far he seems to be enjoying it.
  • I was a GSE for 14 years (GSEC) then turned LDO (LCDR) for 12 years.  I know quite a bit about this rating.
  • Hi all, I'm a former navy nuke  (ET) and GSE  I didn't spend all that long on destroyers but I will share what I can with you .
  • Corinne finished her A-School Monday and got her orders on Wednesday. She is soo happy to be reporting to Mayport Florida, on the DDG-68.

  • Just past Mickey D;s is the enlisted galley on right.. MWR is north of the GM school abt three blocks.
  • There are a couple(3) LCI's in harbor at base of hill.
  • My son said he will have abt an hour and a half b4 having to go to Mainside. It is not that far from the Vistors Center. Maybe a long six blocks. We will give him a cell ph. so he can keep us updated. Will check in, hopefully to get a pass when he returns, so we may take him back to his quarters on mainside. If anyone returns their son or daughter to their barracks i would suggest go straight from Main gate to Farragut Field. Building 1 is straight ahead.Take right and then left.
(Straight ahead at stop sign will take u to Hospitalside.A right will take u to MU's and old Camp Barry.) )
Go straight past theatre to stop sign.
DO NOT go beyond! Off LIMITS TO ENLISTED!
    OFFICERS(Base CO,XO'S qrtrs) COUNTRY!
(A right turn just before stop sign will take u downhill to Lake Michigan. Fishing equipment rental, sailboat lessons and rentals and north to Nunn Beach on right, swimming, when no pollution, BBQing, sand VB. A camping area is set up on the far north end for Retired military. Then back up hill. Stop sigh at the HT school. Turn left then right at Mickey D's. Then past the GM school two/three blocks. NEX on right Turn left to GS school and barracks.)
Drive past the front of Bldging 1 (Headquarters Bldg.) north. Track and pool will be on ur left. Then Galley### and to Mickey D's .Turn, left again, go two blocks past GM school (Green Glass Bldg) on left. GS school will be visible on your left as two tall grey stacks emerge from it. NEX on right. Turn left again. Barracks are in the general area of the school.
Otherwise first left ,if not a oneway after crossing bridge inside Main gate. Straight north to barracks.
Hope my rememberer is wrking ok. Gud luckand enjoy your time with your Sailor!
  • Larry, My son is GSM .He had weekend liberty and did not have to move across base until th following tuesday. His PIR was on 6/25/10.
  • Here is a link to some information off the "about.com" site that Joseph suggested.. Gives a little more detail to the different jobs within the general GSM\GSE rate. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navynecs/a/gtst.htm
  • Larry, I do not know.. I would think not..because their A school is so close to boot camp.. but I am sorry to say,, I truely don't know..

GSM (gas turbine systems technician)

I am going to become a GSM in a couple months. I have been trying to find a GSM to talk to just to find something out about this job. I'm afraid I won't like it or get bored with it. I'm a small girl who knows nothing about mechanics but mechanic jobs are all I qualified for. If there is anyone who could tell me more about it, more than what I have already read online. Maybe some neat stories to go with the job to get me excited to leave for it. Thanks so much, hope to hear from someone soon!
