  • Hello group,

Well we made it to my Son's graduation I can say that the experience was awesome do not miss this ceremony it was one of the best things I've ever attended. It was great to see my Son  and how much He's matured since he left, I want to thank the USN for this. We spent the whole weekend just hanging out and relaxing He has moved to his new ship and is rooming with three other GM's. They welcomed Him like He was a old friend it's very comforting to His Mom and I to know that he's in good hands.

His division earned all of the flags possible and was the only division to receive the CNO flag and was close to receiving the Admirals award a rare honor, sorry if it sounds like I'm bragging but just so damn proud of Him and His group. He now has 23 weeks of A school and then probably home for a couple of weeks. If anyone needs a hotel recommendation the Courtyard Marriott Waukegan was a great hotel to stay at awesome pool/spa and if your AAA they have two queen room plus breakfast for two and up to three kids  for 75.00 nite. One quick note Thank You Navy Dads for all your help and advice during this time it made getting through boot camp much easier on us. I guess that's it for now God Bless all our navy families.

  • My son is in his first week of RTC and is headed to GM "A" school after that. At what point do they narrow down what exactly he will be doing in that job? Also, he got a pretty average score on the ASVAB. He was on delayed entry for about 6 months. He was told by his recruiter the day he left, that with his score, he would not have qualified for GM today as the standards have be raised. Knowing that, what sorts of things might he end up doing as a GM?

  • Hello Dan. My son finished C-School for V.L.S. (Vertical Launch Systems in San Diego. He also attended C-School for the 25 MM in San Diego. I have known other folks who's V.L.S. sailors attended school on the East coast. I do not believe final assignments play any role in class location. One of my sons friends attended school on the east coast and is now in Hawaii. Your son will know when he chooses his assignment and when he receives a copy of his orders. Keep in mind not all sailors go immediately to a C-School. My sons closest friend graduated A-School in August 2009 My son graduated in Sept 2009. During that time there were long delays between graduation and receiving orders. When the orders were received the friend was assigned to San Diego to await V..L.S. C-School (Nov 09). When my son finished A-School he remained at Great Lakes until Jan 2010. Shipped to San Diego and immediately started C-School. His friend was still waiting to start school. They both ended up in Hi on the same ship with my son arriving one month ahead of his friend. You just don't know. Thinks have changed allot. Gary T.

  • my son did his C school in Everett Washington. he is now in Japan on the GW.

I think it depends on their advanced weapons choice.

not sure as I'm new to all this also
