Dean, glad to here your son is doing well. He seems to have moved more quickly then my son had. Nick had a 9 week hold between A.T.T. and A-School. Now he is on hold waiting for his hard copy orders. He is starting his fourth week of hold since graduation from A-School. Gary T.

Glen H- yes Devin is in the traditional class room instruction. He seems to be doing well. He loves the hands on training.

Greetings GM Dads! Devin is about half way done with A-school. He has been doing real well so far. Apparently ranked third, before a test on ordinance that was tough. He hopes to finish well enough so he can get Riverine orders. He has bben gone since April 8, PIR 'd on June 5 and will proably get orders by early December. On the December 18 he will be flying home for the holidays!! Cant wait for that! We talk often and we saw him at PIR and again on Labor day weekend but will be better having him home!

Devons Dad, what is your first name? My name is Gary. Exactly where is Devon in his training at this time. I understand he had his P.I.R. on 10/16/09. Is he still on the recruit base or has he transferred to the A-School side already. If so is he on the Enterprise? Is he scheduled to start I.N.D.O.C. (Basic Indoctrination for new sailors)? I am asking so I can be more able to give you the information you may need. Gary T.

Well, found out Devon will be on hold for one more week. He will start GM school Nov 2. Right now he's standing watch, going to Six Flags and the mall. What a life!

Congratulations to Devon. He should be starting to feel a little more freedom now that basic is over. Maybe when he finishes A-School he will get C-School closer to home. My sister lives in Marlborough Ct. Would have been great to have my son Nick near her. Remember, if you have any questions ask. If I don't know the answer I can get it. Gary T.

Thank you Gary T. I just got back from Devon's PIR on 10/16/09. He was glad to have that behind him and he will be checking in to GM school this coming week. Off we go on the next adventure! I will pass on the info you suggested.
While I was in the Springhills Marriot bar at night meeting with other parents who brought their sailors back to the base for the night, I met up with some GM's who were staying at the hotel on 'hold' . He told me this was typical for many ratings. He did enjoy his rating so far and told me my son will also.

Dean - is your son in self-paced computer training or traditional classroom training? Our son was, I think, in the first class to go back to traditional instructor-lead format. I think it took longer, but he really was impressed with the instructor(s). He's in Norfolk now assigned to a boat detachment as a GM.

Dean, my son Nicholas really enjoyed A-School. He received his verbal orders during his tenth week of training. He finished #2 in his class and was allowed 2nd pick of orders. He chose V.L.S. (Vertical Launch Systems) on a cruiser. C-School will be in San Diego or Norfolk, then assignment in Hi. .

Devin seems to be moving along quickly. Nick had a 9 week hold between A.T.T. and A-School. Tell Devin to enjoy the classes, the week after he graduates they have FATS (Fire Arms Training Simulator) then hold again.

Nick started hold again this week and is now awaiting his hard copy orders which take a minimum of two weeks even longer. He has been told he may be on hold until January, who knows have to wait and see. I don't know if the type of school assignment has anything to do with the hold for C-School, but he is on his way to the next step.

Tell Devon to hang in there his stay at Great Lakes is getting shorter. Nick lives on the Cole and drives a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo with TWARDO on the plates. If Devin sees him have him give him a shout. GARY T.

Gary, is well on his way in A school. He is I ssuppose amonth into training. He had a month hold before starting A school. SCC and ATT went well and quick. He is really into it and seems to enjoy it all. Even the Heritage classes.
