Bill - Danny got "verbal orders" late last week indicating he'll be assigned to Mobile Security Detachment based in Little Creek, Va. But...he's been waiting a week now and still now actual orders posted with leave instructions so he still can't come home. We're sort of in limbo waiting for him to have leave. He's very happy with the boat detail assignment, but I'll feel better when he actually gets his orders so we know for sure. He got his "cannons" last Friday so he's essentially on hold again. Has Brett heard any more?

Oktra--- . Did you read GM A-school progression. I listed times and schools Nick has progressed through during his time in the NAVY. The schools and training will remain the same its the times spend during schools and between schools which maybe more fluid and subject to change. I would guess if he moved to the A-school side he should be starting I.N.D.O.C. almost immediately. He will also start studying for his phase 2. Phase 2 is the second most important thing a sailor experiences after joining the NAVY. (P.I.R. and Phase 2) Phase 2 is when they can where civilian cloths and have week-end liberty. Contact me and I will do my best to help you with information or direct you where to go to get it. Gary T.

We heard from him yesterday and they told him that he would graduate Feb 24th but he didn't know when he starts. Kinda hard to know when you end but not when and where you start. I would love any information that you can give us. Glad to be among those who are going through the same things.

Welcome to the group. I have sent a friends request. My son Nick has been in the NAVY since 13/01/09. Bill Sick's son Brett and Glen Hobbes son Dan have been in the NAVY since late 08. They both are nearing the end of their A-schools and awaiting orders. My son Nick is currently in his first week of A-school after a 45 business day or 9 week wait. Don't fear though the journey has just began for KODY. He is safe in GL, has a roof over his head, three squares a day, ground under his feet, plenty of supervision and time on his hands (time on his hands being the worst of all). I have many suggestions to melt the boredom away if our sailors will only listen. Feel free to contact me via E-Mail. I can direct you to another site I am currently on which has over 20 GM parents, all going through what you have yet to experience. Any question you may have will more then likely be answered by reading our GM Forum. Let the journey began. Be looking forward to your contact. Gary T.

My son Kody just graduated this past week and was wondering if there were any other new dads here. He came from DIV 259 and is waiting on A school.

Hi Glen, yeah, Brett said most of his class has received verbals, he has not, they tell him likely the 1st half of Aug. Brett said Dan got orders for Norfolk. I can only hope Brett does also. TTYL

Bill - sounds like the kids are getting verbal orders at least. Are you hearing the same thing?

Afternoon All. For those that want to know about the A school time table. Brett's class is in a pilot course that has done away with the self paced study program. The class before him also began the same course. Brett started A school on May 24th and is targeted to finish before the end of July. This may help in speeding up the holds for the Sailors behind him. When I asked him for specifics, this was his reply; " We are the second class. The incoming class should and probably will move this fast too. We are going damn fast too. Our ending date was Aug 11th, our instructor goes on leave the 7th and she wanted us done a week before that. Which is do-able. The school itself is, I think, 54 days long. The old schedule people could go as fast or as slow as they wanted. Which is why people got hung up. So for us to learn more and faster they implemented this process and it seems to be working." This is for the GM rating. I have no info on the others. As always, I will update as soon as I learn any new info. TTYL

Gary - sorry - I must have missed your post. I think Dan was on hold for about 3 weeks before A school started. His particular class is comletely instructor-lead as opposed to computer-based trng. Dan said it's sort of an experiment. He likes the instructor a lot so I think it's a good situation. They seem to move through 1 or 2 modules a week with regular tests. He's going really well and seems to like it - more positive than while he was on hold naturally. I think he started ~ 5/14 and he thinks he'll be done around 7/28, then thinks he'll have orders and two weeks leave before shipping out somewhere. He wants Riverines but I think he's realistic about likelihood of getting his first choice. It sounds like Nick should be getting close to classing up. Hope he does soon - time goes by a lot faster for them. Keep us posted.

Hello Glen, Nick is still on hold for A-school, three weeks and counting. Been waiting for your input ref: info about A-school. Nick is getting bored with the wait. Told him about your son and Bill's son. Have a good day. There is a GM site on Navy for Mom's. Don't know if you are aware it exists. If not it may be of help. Gary T.
