His job is MT. He and I haven't talked in detail so not sure when he will start basic. My impression is he has to wait a bit to start.

Thanks Rick. Yes he is DEP(I had to learn what that was...lol) and he heads to boot camp in April. He is very excited. I can hardly wait to go to swear in with him. He has monthly meetings till the. He had hoped to start boot camp sooner. So I have awhile to learn the ropes. Appreciate all the input. What is PIR? Where can I go buff up on navy lingo?

Harry,

Well yes, if he can handle Subs. Believe you asked about being an MT on surface ships - no, that would be a different rate. Believe me the Navy knows how to screen MTs and all sub crew. They have to be really sharp to make the cut.

Typically no time between Boot Camp and Groton (A school) but his sequence may vary. There will likely be a week between A school and C school in Kingsbay.

Congrats Jack! You may not know it, but my son decided he didn't like subs! (waited til he graduated from BESS. go figure.) His is now an Airman on the USS Stennis and is deployed to Afganistan. Please keep him lifted in pray, as I will pray for your Submariner! Once again, Congrats!!!!

Graduation October 28, 2011. 11 sailors made the MT class graduation. Very nice ceremony. Wife and I were delighted that we went. Worth the time and money to show our support and express our thanks to the fine instructors. MTSN Pouchet is now on his way to his first sub duty. Awesome!

Heard from our son that his class is on nights for a while. Will make things a bit tough when his girlfriend arrives. I told her to stay on west coast time.

Wife and I are planning a trip out in early Sept. She hasn't seen our son since his surprise mother's day trip home. And this will be her first time to see her son's base. Should be a good time for all.
