Welcome to the NavyDads Media Center !

Share your recommendations for books and other media that you think would be of interest to other NavyDads.  I have numerous books I've read, and recently listened to via audiobook download, that generally concentrate on WWII Navy history that tell the recent combat history of the Navy and show where many current Navy doctrines and traditions have evolved from.  I find the stories compelling and make me even more proud to have a daughter that is a Navy veteran and a son on active duty and part of this long tradition of service.  Won't you share your recommendations as well?

it is a good read and demonstrates that the damage control techniques taught at Great Lakes and in the fleet really do work!!!!

About half way through "No Higher Honor". Yet another great book. Even though you know the end of the story it truly fascinating to experience what the sailors of the Sammy B went through.

G.K. Chesterton Collected Works are a favorite. My favorite statement he made was "As a journalist, I should have known better than to trust a newspaper" read in context of the previous articles he wrote and the revelations he was making at the time, made it all the more funnier.

To summarize, he was revealing that his previous articles had misinformation because the British government contacted his newspaper and was using it to provide misinformation to the public and that it turns out the newspaper itself was told that it was misinformation, a fact, they failed to inform their own journalists. The reason for the lies made it even funnier.

Ordered a series of videos off Amazon called "Hero Ships" originally on the History channel. It is absolutely a "must have" for all Navy history enthusiasts! Unbelievable!!

I am sure you have heard by now. One of the greats, Tom Clancy, is no longer with us. He was always my go to author, having read all the Jack Ryan novels, atleasttwo times, plus Carrier and Armored. I have read a few of the Netforce books but didn't get hooked on them. Gonna miss him. Salluuuute!
