Welcome to the NavyDads Media Center !

Share your recommendations for books and other media that you think would be of interest to other NavyDads.  I have numerous books I've read, and recently listened to via audiobook download, that generally concentrate on WWII Navy history that tell the recent combat history of the Navy and show where many current Navy doctrines and traditions have evolved from.  I find the stories compelling and make me even more proud to have a daughter that is a Navy veteran and a son on active duty and part of this long tradition of service.  Won't you share your recommendations as well?

You know Paul, if I get tired of doing housework this weekend I could scroll through the posts and do a quick book list and then ask for your approval on it -?  Maybe

For this group we don't....used to for the old reading group, but that data "went away" when the creator left the site. Maybe I can start to put one together one of these days depending on my paying job and how busy I am here on NavyDads......

Gentlemen:  Do you guys have a altogether book list?  I have been scrolling through and love the titles, but just wondered if you have a spot that I am missing that has your booklist altogether somewhere?

Thanks Much!

Paul, it is indeed a sobering moment! I hope I get the opportunity someday to experience a Tiger Cruise! You felt the reality, I can only speculate.

Yeah Bill-so many people seem to forget, what with PIR and A-school and all the other stuff, that this Navy business is serious business. I had one of those sobering moments on my Tiger Cruise. I wrote about it briefly in my blog. I was literally leaning on the starboard main gear of a Super Hornet while looking out the elevator at one of our escort destroyers...........it hit me that this a deadly serious business.  Anyway,I'm still listening to he Stand and after I finish (it's like 48 hours long-literally) and will start Front Burner when I finish.........

I am currently reading Front Burner. Very good thus far and with this being about an event that occurred only 13 years ago 12 October....pretty sobering! Commander Lippold lists the sailors who perished at the outset of the book. When I saw that one was an IT Specialist....which is what my son is studying currently in A school....it was a real gut check moment!

We had a reading list group years ago on the site and the group creator left the site...at that time when someone left, all of his "creations" were automatically deleted as well.....I must have had my review of No Higher Honor in that group....

Paul,
You aren't confusing it with "A Higher Call" are you?
That was an interesting read.
Great videos BTW.

my secret Bill----I download them from Audible.com, load them onto my iPhone, plug into my car stereo system,  and listen while I commute to work...it's an hour each way so I get some quality listening in over the car stereo. It's almost all freeway and at the hour pretty unpopulated.....problem is I get to the mine parking lot and just wanna sit there and listen to another chapter!!!!

Paul, Excellent videos! That's two additional books on my list to buy!
