I recently read that Marcus Lutrell book, Lone Survivor and really enjoyed his telling of the story. The insights into SEAL training were so interesting... They should really make it a spectator sport!

Another good read for anyone interested in the Teams, is SEAL TEAM SIX-- which is a memoir written by a fellow by the name of Howard Wasdin, who was an elite Navy SEAL sniper. Again, there is a terrific little story line packed with action (think Blackhawk Down) and many more interesting peeks behind the scenes of BUDs training.

those were a truly remarkable few days in June that changed Navy doctrine forever...Dec. 7 ushered in the end of the battleship era....Coral Sea (May '42) and Midway (June '42) proved that beyond a doubt.....

I couldn't agree more. I truely wished that i had read this early in my Navy service. I know it would have made a significant difference.
Tomorrow, Monday June 4, I know my thoughts will be on all who served and sacrificed all at Midway.

that's great to hear Ralph......while I thought I know a lot about Navy history, it is the stories about the early days that really amazed me and gave me a much deeper appreciation of where our Navy came from and the rich heritage that our sailors follow.

current read- an awesome book!  Didn't think it would be interesting and spell-binding as it was.  If you are a fan of Navy history, this one is a must read!!

to understand where the Navy is it is really important to understand where the Navy was..."A Sailor's History..." is one of the most important books to read to see the evolution of the Navy and to understand where those words Honor, Courage, and Commitment come from......

Thanks for the tip. I am starting to look into books on Naval warfare and tactics. Next up is 'Sailors History.
