Share your recommendations for books and other media that you think would be of interest to other NavyDads. I have numerous books I've read, and recently listened to via audiobook download, that generally concentrate on WWII Navy history that tell the recent combat history of the Navy and show where many current Navy doctrines and traditions have evolved from. I find the stories compelling and make me even more proud to have a daughter that is a Navy veteran and a son on active duty and part of this long tradition of service. Won't you share your recommendations as well?

this was also a recent read....and well done!
The Marines had always bristled at the idea of any of their own forces serving under anyone other than another Marine. But then 9/11 happened, and the Marines grew more agreeable to inter-branch operational command, finally forming the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) in 2006. In Always Faithful, Always Forward, Dick Couch follows a class of Marine candidates from their recruitment, through assessment and selection, to their qualification as Marine Special Operators. He also profiles their unique mission: to live in the field, train locals to defend their communities, and lead them in battle.Given unprecedented access to this commandand its forces, Couch offers an unprededented portrait of a new breed of Marine.
I read that one way back in '11....it is a good book!!! I got off track with Navy stuff....currently listening to
From the turret of a German tank, Colonel Hans von Luck commanded Rommel's 7th and then 21st Panzer Division. El Alamein, Kasserine Pass, Poland, Belgium, Normandy on D-Day, the disastrous Russian front--von Luck fought there with some of the best soldiers in the world. German soldiers.Awarded the German Cross in Gold and the Knight's Cross, von Luck writes as an officer and a gentleman. Told with the vivid detail of an impassioned eyewitness, his rare and moving memoir has become a classic in the literature of World War II, a first-person chronicle of the glory--and the inevitable tragedy--of a superb soldier fighting Hitler's war.
That promise was forgotten for a long time. After he was liberated and got out, his life was a train wreck. His salvation came after his wife talked him into seeing Billy Graham much later in his life. After dedicating his life to Christianity, the horrific nightmares he experienced every day stopped and never returned. From that point on in his life he accomplished some fantastic things.
Ralph, In the trailer you hear him say something like, "If I make it through this, I swear, I will dedicate my whole life to you." Not sure of the exact context or where it goes from there.
Got sidetracked and haven't had a lot of time, but need to update my reading selections ..... some interesting non-Navy reads!!!!
Be sure to check out the film version to be released on Christmas----
