Hi Bill,

it sounds like you were fortunate enough to take a little piece of NC with you when you headed back to Ohio. Remember, whenever you feel the urge to drift back here but don't have the time to actually make the trip, just pop in a James Taylor CD and play "Carolina On My Mind". That'll help you smell that "Hatteras Spray" again!

Although I'm a Buckeye I've lots of history in North Carolina. I was fortunate enough to have served forty four months on the Outer Banks at the Naval Facility Cape Hatteras. January 1971-June 1974.  NFCH was one of many cold war submarine tracking bases all long gone. Our daughter Katherine was born in the Navy ambulance on highway 13 in front of the Wright Brothers Memorial thus her nick name Kitty or Kat. She is in the Navy currently serving as an instructor in the Tidewater Area of Virginia.  My other connection was a the medical rep for the Charlotte Marine Corps Officer Selection Office.  We visited the Outer Banks this past summer (2014).  The Navy base is no longer there, the Hatteras is moved, the bank and post office were both moved.........................ah getting old.

Hi Guys,
I just today received the first letters from my Son. He shipped from MEPS on 4 Sept. His PIR is 31 Oct. 2014. He said that he and his shipmates were adjusting to RTC well enough. He advised that the chow was good and that he is learning that in boot, the phrase "being there for each other" means so much more than he had ever expected. He went on to state that they are learning that unit cohesiveness and teamwork are paramount to their success. He also stated that he and his shipmates were working hard and trying to "get it right the first time, everytime". Although somewhat homesick and constantly tired, he said that he is looking forward to getting deeper into the training and getting into A school in San Antonio.

For my son it was a day spent on the Aircraft Carrier. We left port at 7am, sailed 5 hours out to sea and then had an air show like none other I have ever seen. Not sure what it is for sailors on other ships.

Hi all,

I have seen Family Day mentioned somewhere along the lines and was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on what it actually consists of? Thanks, in advance,

Hello Folks,
I just got the Form Letter advising that my Son is on Ship 14, Div. 348. The PIR for this group is 31 Oct. 2014. Are there any others here with recruits in this group? I look forward to hearing from you.

My son graduated from A school last Thursday and he called today to tell us he got verbal orders today.  He is going to be stationed at Pearl Harbor.
