Looking forward to graduation next Friday!
I am a father of a nuke instructor at Goose Creek. I have some insight on the school if needed.
The nuke program is very demanding and not easy...as you said, it is not the end of the world and feeling good about where he is going is a very positive thing!
Got the news we all dread, my son got "de-Nuked" (was in the EM program). The good news is that he got re-rated to IT-S (he wanted ET originally and was a bit disappointed with EM at the time) and is headed to Groton for sub and A school. He is a lot happier now and now feels he has a rate that fits his interests. Words of wisdom from my sailor: De-nuked does not mean the end of your Navy career - hang in there and keep a good attitude.
Oops. Let me clarify--the texting, etc. q. was regarding when they are NOT on a mission and on the island. And Jim you pretty much confirmed what I have learned, so far, regarding 'family grams' while on the boat and underway. As I understand it, the messages are of limited length, censored, and no bad news for sub Sailors is allowed while underway.
Question regarding Guam: Will communication with us here in the CON-US be pretty much "normal" regarding texting, phone calls, video conferencing, etc.? Any information regarding 'family grams' or whatever the current form(s) of communication for submariners would also be appreciated. It's possible that our sailor may be boarding his boat very soon after arrival in Guam. Thanks. mllrgrnt@gmail.com
