John J- Our son graduated Power Sch February; he was told 4 mo delay then; now the estimate is July to November start. He has enjoyed the last two months or so at King's Bay with some training at the TTF(Trident Training Facility).

RBart: Our daughter graduates Power School in June and says there is a 5-6 month delay in prototype. When does your son graduate?

Does anyone have good info re: housing near Ballston Spa? My son will be heading up there in June. Thanks for sharing any experiences that he might find helpful.

David's mom is right, I miss read the posts.  Power School graduation is what I was talking about.  We did receive an invitation to Power School grad, a really nice ceremony as I said, outdoors and very special.

I dont remember getting an invitation other than the information he gave us. I think they get a little break the week before graduation, all the tests are done. They spend the week getting Petty Officer training, RESPECT progam etc. Have fun!

I agree with old Lt, it is a really nice ceremony and well worth attending.  According to our son, the only ceremony really worth attending of the three if you are going to travel a good distance.  We moved our son into his apartment right after the ceremony.  They really want the sailors out soon.  We were lucky that he got leave right away and was able to be with us for the next week.

It is a very nice ceremony. Only a few minutes through the gates have everyone's id. They will check it again as you enter the building where the ceremony is. We ended up parking in the students / visitor lot, a very large lot. There were open spaces in the rear so if you have anyone with you who would rather not walk drop them off in front of the lot and park the car yourself. Give yourself at least 10 minutes to park and walk up. The building is a short walk from the front of the lot.

Everything starts on time and if I remember correctly the ceremony lasts roughly 60 to 90 minutes. After the ceremony you get a short period of time to take pictures and then they go direct to sign some papers  and get their certificates, leave papers signed etc. They tell you it only a few minutes but it was at least an hour before they came back out.

We spent some time out of the weather in the Rickover room which has exhibits and seating. 

Then they go back to their rooms to get in civilian clothes so if you want pictures get them then. They were all in a hurry to get on with the day or get home.

I think we were out of there around 11:30 1200.

My wife googled our name the other day just to see if there was anything new we weren't aware of.  She was surprised to find an article about our sailor graduating the PTP in Ballston Spa.  What was really astonishing was that it included our first names and hometown.  My son knew nothing about this.  Is it common for the Navy to release this information?  We cannot figure out how the news agency that reported this obtained this info.

Yes, they will. You will need to find out what navy office near you to contact. There's a form your son will have to fill out . I have notes on all of this somewhere . The most important thing I learned was SIT. Sit in transit . You son will have to be there when they in pack, but with all the traveling that will be going on, they may find it daunting to schedule both movers and when they might arrive themselves. Your sons items can "sit" at a storage facility there in Goose Creek until he can get there. That's something no one told him until I called. A pro moving company will pick all up at one location. We has to get the wife's items brought to our house and then her parents took some when we all drive there. Anyway the moving company will come, pack, box, wrap everything. There could be multiple families on each truck, so they
schedule pickups in a route. It's each once you schedule it. Then you call the moving co in GC when they are ready to move in.
There are specific offices and contacts thy your son can get.
We all drive there from Texas and helped them move in.
