Our son did not know for sure about leave after Power School until a week or so before graduation. As for right after, he stayed there in GC but had to sign out of the barracks the day of graduation. He had to set up an apartment ahead of time but didn't know whether he was staying in GC or going to Balston Spa also until a week or so before graduation. The Navy does not give the sailors much lead time. That is typical of the military though and they learn to live with it. On a different note, we have been advised by the site administrator that it is best not to use last names for security reasons, that is why you see most here have just initials, names with initials or just screen names.

What about the aircraft carrier Nukes? What happens after Prototype?

No they don't go to sub school. He will go for some damage control training between schools and then he'll be assigned to a Sub after prototype. Once on his Sub he'll go through the qualification process and when he's fully qualified he'll receive his dolphins and be a Submariner.

My Son Jason is in power school now and I asked him the same question about sub school. He told me they do not go to sub school after prototype. So if someone knows different I would love to know. Also how about orders after power school? How long after graduation? Jason wants me to book him a flight home with us day after graduation, he hasen't been home since Christmas.
Thanks, Scott S.

Scott, hope your well! My son is in Charleston A school now. Power school starts the first of August. So after prototype it's Groton for sure? Do our guys bye pass the "sub school"? I haven't spent much time studying since BC. Just wondering.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. My son is a MM he's completed his Nuke and Prototype schools. He's been on a few underways and is working on his qualifications. Happy to be aboard.

Jeff....I know what you mean. My son was telling me about some rope obstacle course they found near Ballston. 60 feet in the air using 3 ropes and logs to get across 5 different courses. He loved it.

My son got the same shift schedule - 7 days on 2 off - then they throw in a "T" week as well I guess......He is in Ballston Spa and loves it - he and one of his buddies have been out kayaking thyis past weekend and found some great scenery and a little whitewater. Most fun thye have had in quite a while I guess......he is glad he is up there - something different.
