The only time I have ever been back East is to see my son graduate from Boot Camp at Great Lakes. I am looking forward to checking New York out and especially seeing my son! He is looking forward to seeing New York also. He was born and raised in San Diego, and we are definitely NOT used to cold here in San Diego!

Saratoga is beautiful. We were up there when my husband went through the program many moons ago. We loved it even though we went through a crazy winter up there. We were used to the cold being from Chicago, so it wasn't too bad. :o)

I won't be able to make this graduation. I live in San Diego, CA..and he doesn't even know IF he will graduate, plus he is being shipped off immediately to New York either way, so I want to go there when he has a couple of days off. Can't afford both. That is awesome you will be close to him!! Good for him and you!! Hopefully they spend very little of that big bonus they will get half of on the horses!!

Luckily for me, I'll be driving down to SC for graduation. Then Ballston is only 4 hours from my home so I'm hoping to see him more on an occasional week-end if possible. He is already joking about us coming up in August for a day at Saratoga Racetrack.

My son became independent the moment he entered the Navy. Actually before that . He made the decision, would not take input, and every since he handles all his own things. Mom wants to help so bad, but that isn't a question. He has made some mistakes, but doing okay. I wish I could be as involved as you guys! Or at all! They still say he is going to New York, haven't heard any changes, and he is doing a little better in school and thinks he will make it now!! He will know three days before graduation. His friends are helping him through that are naturally better at this type of school. Teamwork is a great lesson. It is very nice of them and he trys harder than anyone I know. He is very responsible. I miss my son needing me. Be thankful they want your input. I wish I could help him so he can focus on comps. I can only pray. Hang in there other parents, after Boot Camp they did that to him. Changed the days he could come home and the plane tickets he bought were no good. I bought some for him. He learned his lesson the hard way the first time.

My son got the same word yesterday - now he is not sure if or how many room mates he has or does not have......... my wife made plane reservations and now that is all changing based on the new info......... my experience with the military - NEVER ASSUME and get used to making very late travel plans. My wife gets frustrated with the constant changing, but that is part of how the military operates. It may be more difficult on the parents, but the sailors are getting ready for finals and comps......they need to be focusing on that and not on the potential move.......so we can help by trying to be the constant in their life right now I guess.........

My son called last night and told us his roommate for Ballston was told he will be on hold in SC for 6 months after graduation. Now my son needs to find either a new roommate or get a 1 bedroom apt. when he transfers (if that is still on). He said don't count on anything until the papers are in his hand and then that's still not confirmed until his butt is headed north. I still think it's harder on the parents than it is the sailors though. Sometimes I think the navy plays mind games to see how well the sailors adjust to the constant changes being made.

It's huge alright sheryl and top to bottom communication is NOT their strong suit. our son who is not one to speak when he his not sure, told us he was told "definitely BS,NY. A day later he called ,nope it GC after grad.from power school.....this navy dad is not happy, why misinform sailors at a time when they testing to the finish line at school?

Sheryl. I think he said his roommate is going to be in Georgia right after, that is why he wants my son to choose.
