Can someone say what internet provider they used/use in GC? Ethernet? Cell card? (for the laptop) Do they have cable hookups in the room? No idea. We are hoping Skype with him after PIR..

My son said that they offer assistance in filing income taxes for them. Not sure if they charge. I don't know where the W2 is sent.

So how does the Navy handle the W2's for income taxes? Do they send them to the GC address or to the Sailors home address? Is there help for new Sailors who have never filed by themselves before?

Sent our son his phone and lap top via FED EX. If anyone out there has NETFLIX, give your sailor your account info. I gave our sailor my info and now when he has spare time (LOL!) he watches movies instantly on his computer for free. We still get the rentals at our house so it's a win/win situation.

Yeah, that Best Buy gets an awful lot of business from NNPTC. It is said that that particular store is the highest grossing Best Buy in the US.

We passed along the phone at the airport, but our son bought his computer out there. There was a BIG road trip to Best Buy. I guess all the guys wanted to get something electronic with their new found wealth. :)
Cell service in the area is horrible. The first time our son called from the base, his call was dropped about 10 times. He's persistant, because he kept calling back. :) It can be a bit frustrating, but not a big deal.

Yup, they are. The problem is getting them to the sailor. They can not be brought to GL. Some parents meet their sailors at O'Hare and hand over the computer and phone there. We simply mailed them to our sailor and he got them within the week, though mail at GC is not good. Once there if they want internet, it is at their expense.

Well, the boy sailor finally called the 8oo number on the back of his atm card and they helped him get his pin. He calls me and said "Hey they were really helpful on the phone". If I could reached through the phone and "Gibb slapped" him, I would have. Sometimes I think he was kicked by one of those fabled "Missery" Mules when he was young.
