Steven your son may or may not have the weekend off after PIR, our son flew out of O'hare at about 8 am, we went down to the USO there and spent more time with him there. Mary he is still a ET.

I response to after graduating power school, they do get BAH around $950 plus little more for food. I believe it comes out to about $1300 per month. My son and 2 other sailors rented a house, so maybe look into that. (the 3-way split really saves money & they will most likely be on the same shift. They also will get another part of their bonus ( I think my son has 50% remaining) and they will get move out money about $1000 i think. When prototype starts the will work 7 weeks mon/fri then they start shift work. if any of your sailors need to rent a house around mid/end march let me know. my son should graduate prototype around then. (and the house is for a year lease, but when he gets his orders it voids the lease). Any questions feel free to ask & congrats to your sailors for maiking it this far.

Our son Mike arrived in SC on Saturday too. He unfortunatly doesn't start school until the end of January. I guess he missed starting this week, and now has to wait two more weeks. David, is your son an ET,EM, or MM?
He also said that he was put in a single room, but with a roommate. He's not a happy camper as the room is REALLY too small for two people, but what are you going to do. I guess it will be good practice for when he goes out to sea.
Graduation was amazing. The visit was way too short, but we enjoyed every minute we could spend with our son. I guess now the big challenge starts with it being atleast 6 months before he can come home again.

Have not heard from him yet.
Says his school starts today.

As memory serves, the 400 mile limitation is for leave requests. Power school graduates can request either prototype.

The OPSEC note from the site administrator reminded me, even on this site, we should never use last names of ourselves or our sailors. Just a security thing.

Mike K ..... hopefully I'll get to meet you at graduation if you plan on attending.

Steve.....As far as choosing between Ballston or GC, my son told me that only if you live within a certain distance from that school, you are allowed to "REQUEST" where you wish to go. I believe it is 400 miles but I may be wrong. As far as housing, he said that there is a grapevine of graduating and incoming sailors where the living quarters are just a turnover for the renters. And Mike is correct, if you can get a few guys to split the rental, you can make a few extra hundred a month off the housing allowance.
