David, our son left GL at 2 AM in the morning and waited at the USO until his flight around 9 AM. We were lucky that he did not leave until Tuesday so we saw him all weekend.
Steven, an A school class starts every two weeks. Sailors often wait until they class up, sometimes as long as two weeks. They are in what is called INDOC, where they clean and do other duty. My sailor said they muster at 7, clean until lunch, clean more after lunch and are done around 2-3 in the afternoon. One of the most boring times he has had he said.

When is your PIR? Jayme called yesterday and said that he heard that his A school in GC may not start for 2 weeks. Our PIR is 2/5. Can anyone tell us what he is able to do for 2 weeks before it starts?

Need some info that the old hands here might know. When your sailor left GL what time of the day did he get on the plane.
The boy has already said that he will be traveling on Saturday after grad. We do know that we will wait with him at the USO at O'Hare till his flight leaves but we (Mom mostly) does not want it to be the first flight of the day at like 5 am or when ever the first flight out is.
If anyone can remember or can ask, it will settle a issue in Mom's mind.

Steve....Mike is correct. They earn a little more freedom each week depending on their test scores and inspections. My son said the most enjoyable luxury he was given was being able to put on his civies! Sometimes, it's the little things in life we take for granted.

Steven, Once in GC their off duty time is technically theirs. They do have requited study time but once class and study is done they are on their own. There are three phases of A school, each with a little more freedom, mostly involving overnight and distance they can travel. By phase three they are on their own.
Everyone who starts A school is assigned 15/3s or 15 hours of study a week, min three per day. If they do extremely well they get what are called vols, they study to finish homework(everyday) and whatever else they need at their own pace. This study does impact their weekends and such.

Thanks for the advise. I thought thats what we would do, but wanted to be sure I didn't get it wrong. Can you tell me also, do they get liberty during the day every weekend once they start A school? Understanding that they would have studies and such, we are wondering if we can shot up there for spring break and spend a weekend with him. ?
