I saw that schedule, but it doesn't cover the 2 days BEFORE they class up.

I think, once I find out the Flight Stuff, we'll go ahead and cruise down there. Maybe he'll be cut loose long enough to grab a bite to eat and if not, it's been awhile since I've seen Rainbow Row!

Thanks for all the info-- I know I'll be on this site A WHOLE LOT MORE once he actually classes up because he's REALLY bad about keeping me informed!! LOL!!!

Sorry.  Guess I was looking at it from the perspective of someone who lives about 1000 miles from GC.  Our son just called and said he has to report for awhile a few hours on Monday, but it is a holiday for most of them.

Thank you Luke...

Being prior military (also stationed in Goose Creek back in the day) I knew he'd be busy getting checked in once he arrived. I was hoping (and I know nothing is ever guaranteed!) to maybe grab a bite or something. We only live 100 miles away, so if not that weekend, maybe another. I know that once the school DOES start, he won't have time to do much of anything because his butt better be studying!!

It isn't that bad Grant.
Sharon, you would not be able to meet him at the airport. He will have very specific travel orders and has to report to the command. When he does, they will go through some indoc processing and briefing, get their room, then will have a limited liberty for the rest of the weekend. At least that is how it worked with my son. He will be tired, so I wouldn't plan on anything Saturday, but if you live close by you might be able to meet Sunday at the Subway/MiniNEX and go shopping or out to eat. He will be under Phase 1 restrictions, so has to stay in uniform and not go far. He will have study hours on the weekends one classes start, but my son always took Saturday completely off.
I don't know if they have President's Day off, but if they do, that might be a good weekend to visit.

If you can't make it to RTC or Chicago O'Hare, you've probably missed your opportunity for awhile, at least.  He will be a busy boy once school starts.

HI!

I am unable to make it PIR (1-30-15) and was wondering how the liberty thing works. From what I gathered, he will fly from RTC to Charleston at some point on Saturday. I would like to meet him at the airport and spend the rest of Sat and possibly Sun with him.

My question is- will he be allowed liberty after checking in with the base upon arrival in Charleston? For both Sat and Sun?

Any info along those lines would be great- thanks so much!!!

mlongst - can't wait to get to BS next week for proto grad!  Boy this has been a long time coming....I'm glad to hear that it's warming up a bit but it's still going to be a little cold for me!

Bob - glad you got to spend some time with your sailor - looks like you had a great time - and I'm sure it was a nice break for him!

Happy Dad,

Our Matt who is on Staff at Ballston Sp was able to get leave to go Deer Hunting with me in Alabama, first time we've been able to hunt together in 5 years. Matt was able to take two of the best Bucks of his life, largest being a 9 pt. 190 lb Bruiser. Fantastic time with my son and some old friends. Got to go to a down home Cat Fish Fry and a Wild Game dinner!. BZ Matt

Congrats to all the graduates.  I live about 90 minutes south of Bspa.  It's supposed to "warm up"  to the low 30's this week.  At least no snow or ice in the immediate forecast.  My son Mike graduated from Goose Creek in July  and is stationed in Bangor WA.  I sure did miss traveling to SC this winter.  Hope to get to WA this summer.  Hope you all have a great visit with your sailors and enjoy the NY winter.
