KTR - WOW!  I love roller coasters but that kind of scared me a bit....I guess it's the whole "water at the end" thing!  Pretty exciting for your son - I hope he enjoyed it!  And BZ to him as he starts applying all his hard work and schooling to the fleet!

Yes some of the awards count. The major ones given at PIR Excellence Award, Academic Award, Navy League Award, etc. all come with a Citation from the Admiral. Our Matt received the Excellence Award, it goes on your permanent record and you get a point on the promotional exam.

Thanks guys. Now to change the subject a bit: Do any of the awards or recognition new Sailors might receive at RTC and PIR as outstanding in their Division, etc. have much benefit down the pipeline beyond RTC?

Bob,

Tell your son to apply early and often!  STA-21 can be a long process.  It's well worth the effort.  STA-21 is the best deal in the Navy for enlisted sailors.  Eight years ago my son enlisted with the dream of being able to fly for the Navy...he started flight school last summer!  Wonders indeed!
