I had something like this happen to me once.  Have him check to see if all the plug wires are set.

Jim - thanks I am going to look at the link you sent.  (You were posting while I was typing my post so I didn't see yours before I posted!)

Thanks Tom - I will pass this on to him.  We just sent his car to him - it arrived day before Thanksgiving and we had it serviced before we shipped it! Just had the water pump replaced, timing belt & serpentine belt replaced, oil change & air filter....Son was driving yesterday & said he pulled up to a light and while stopped the car started "rocking" back & forth and the check engine light flashed on/off.  He smelt a burning smell...he checked the manual & it said something about engine misfire/possible overheating of the catalytic converter.  Transmission was rebuilt a couple of years ago by AAMCO.

Problem now is he has PS comps on Tuesday, we arrive Wednesday (I just rented a car from Enterprise) and he drives to Ballston Spa on 12/20 so he needs his car! And he flies home to Cali on 12/22 - flight is booked......Hopefully when we are there we can get it into someone if he isn't able to do it on Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday!)

The most competent and honest mechanic in the Goose Creek area is Ken King at Automotive Repair Experts on Dragonway dr. off 176 (St James)  He has very limited business hours and higher than average prices however.   The second recommendation I would give is Tread Quarters near the intersection of Hwy 52 and Red Bank Rd.  They don't do a lot of major mechanical work however.  You did not say what was the problem with his car.  I am sure there are many personnel at the command who can help him find a good mechanic he just needs to ask.  If I can help let e know.

Hi all - looking for some quick help!  Just got off the phone with our son and he is having car trouble - does anyone know of a reliable mechanic in Goose Creek area?  He has a Ford Focus......He's hoping to get it into a shop on Tuesday after comps.  And we are flying in on Wednesday and weren't renting a car 'cuz he had his......now to rent a car too!  Oy!

Best to all taking exams and/or comps ... my son was there at one point and is now deployed on the USS SeaWolf.  He was flown to meet the sub in early November.  Does anyone have any ideas around how long they will be out at sea and how often they make port calls?

Son had his last "final" in Power School today - the only thing left is comps on Tuesday.  Prayers please for all taking comps next week.

A big "thank-you" to all serving - military and law enforcement - thank you for your sacrifices!

We are a Military family and for the last 10 years it seams that at least one of us is always gone. This year my son, son-in-law and I will all be missing Christmas at home.  As Craig has said, you grow to accept it and celebrate when and however you can. I found that it was always harder on me then with one of my kids.  Oh and nothing beats a box of home made Christmas cookies to share with your team.  Eric, thanks for sacrificing your time to serve to protect our family at home.

Well said Darrell, Holidays are what and when you make them.
