Thanks for the tip Bob. I know there is a website that the Navy gives the guys to look for housing - I'll get that from my son & see what I can do ahead of time for them (of course like Brian said - once they find out 100% where they are going!). Son did say they would secure housing before they all go home for leave so good to know that....
Hi folks, been a while since posting as my nuke graduated proto in early May. They have obviously made changes in this short time as he had to wait 6+ months from PS to proto, but I am really glad to see that! Good luck to your sailors graduating soon (and yes I completely understand the apprehension, you're parents)! This is a terrific group and I hope you all remain connected.
Thanks Bob, I hope to do the same once she finds out 100% she'll be going up state. I live about 4 1/2 hours from there now (also in Jersey) but should be moved into my new house about 3-3 1/2 from Ballston Spa in Northern NJ
B'sNukeMom&dad and Brian,
Congrats on your sailors graduating power school, our son Matt graduated in Aug and was Grad and Go to Ballston Spa.
My wife researched the available rentals the 2 weeks leading up to graduation as to what my son and his 2 future room mates wanted. She spent a lot of time and made several calls but it paid off. Our Matt gcame home from Graduation, spent 1 day at home and then rode up to NY (we are in NJ and only 4 1/2 hrs away) He was able to secure the rental in 1 day and then came back home for the rest of his leave. When it was time to report for duty he and his buddies went up 2 days before and moved in, they were all set with no problems.
Those that waited to seek rentals and spent most of their leave home before trying to find a place had a tougher time.
Best of luck to you all!
My daughter is in the same boat. Not at the top but not at the bottom either. She had 4 wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday so she was restricted to her room Thur. & Friday.....Sh had a lot of catching up to do over the weekend. We worry because we want the best for them and for them to succeed in life. When I talked with her last, she said they had 6 weeks left and 13 exams. That was a few weeks ago, but yes I would agree, this is definitely crunch time. I wish him, as long with all the other Sailors the best over the next 3+ weeks
Hey Brian - well hopefully we will all be there together! That's nice that you are close to BS - our son keeps getting further & further away, but I really do hope he gets NY......He's a little older too - 24, but it doesn't lessen the worrying! It's getting down to crunch time with these last few weeks of tests - I hope & pray my son can keep his grades up! He's nowhere near the top of the class but he's good with where he's at....and he's giving it his all & that's all I can ask for!
My daughter is also graduating the 13th and yes, I am just as nervous. She also keeps saying everything is good and she's doing fine. She is a little older (25) but I will keep worrying until she is completed the whole Nuke program. I will be down for the graduation in Charleston. She is also hoping for Ballston Spa. We are only between a 3-4 hour drive from there.
So we are getting close to Power School grad (12/13). I'm nervous as can be - son isn't too too stressed but he is a little concerned. 2 big tests this week - Tues/Friday. He keeps assuring us "all is well!". He is hoping to go to Ballston Spa for prototype. Says they should find out on 12/2 for sure. He has his roommates picked out & then they will look for a place (providing they all get the same orders!) - he said probably an apartment or condo. Found out leave will start on 12/20.....if he is grad & go to BS leave will be 12/20-1/13. If he stays in GC it will be 12/20-1/6. He will get to come home (to Cali) for Christmas! Of his (hopeful) roommates, one is from Florida (I know his mom) and the other is from PA. Anyone else out there going to PS grad on 12/13?
