Just heard from our Matt up in Ballston Spa, NY. 17 Sailors masted today, all related to underage drinking and lying. Discipline ranged from Demotion in Rate, Demotion in Rate and Pay Forfeiture, being removed from the Nuke program and 4 were Discharged from the Navy. Shame these men wasted a bright future.
This is awesome!
One year ago today our son left for bootcamp - WOW - what a year! We are now anxiously awaiting his power school grad on 12/13. So proud of him.....
Thanks for sharing Ken - nice to see how well the Navy is working out for your son!
That's awesome Ken thanks for sharing this!
i haven't commented yet, but here goes. The Navy has treated my son and his peers with considerable respect and without mother-henning them has brought them to the point where they feel comfortable enough operate a nuclear power train underway but not so that they forget that it's still a complex power system which requires an incredible amount of care to keep it operating safely. That said, the Navy had all the new officers qualify for deck watch: most of them aboard destroyers, lead operating divisions, and perform ancillary administrative duties. They taxed their brains severely at NPC and then at Balston Spa. Afterward, this young JG had enough time to marry his childhood sweetheart, go on honeymoon to Bali, and then report aboard the Stennis in a city I'd describe as a severely laid-back version of Chicago, his hometown, Seattle. I can't say he's "in the Navy:, he's been working aboard commercial vessels for about fifteen years, and holds two Merchant Mariner licenses. I'd say he's a sailor. My USMC veteran buddies all ask me why he didn't join the Corps. Well it's OK by me. They did cut their wedding cake with my old Mameluke Sword. He asked me to refrain from tapping Laura on the behind with it, though. The Navy's doing OK by him, and he's returning the favor. Semper Fidelis to all my fellow Marine Corps Navy Dads.
