Bob - have a great time at graduation and enjoy the time off with your son!  It seems like a lot of them are being sent to Ballston Spa lately.  My son said they were told that the next few graduating classes would be sent there.  He won't finish power school until December and he said he wasn't going to even worry about where he will be going yet - he said the Navy could change their mind again and again before that time!

Hope everyone knows Bob means the all the graduating students not all students.  Prototype students are moved off base or transferred to make room in the barracks for new students.  The hold class is growing because of the issues with the prototypes.  Even if sent to NY they will sit and wait.  I know you remember "hurry up and wait" is something every military member learns the first day.

Yes we are headed down to the graduation, leaving tomorrow. All the sailors whether staying in Goose Creek or going to Ballston Spa have to be out of their quarters and move into off base housing immdeiately.

Matt has to report for duty at Ballston Spa 0600 on Sept 16th. After Grad we are driving back to NJ, then Matt is going to ride to Ballston Spa to secure a place and then come back to NJ to enjoy the rest of his leave.

Yeah, when they leave is always up in the air often times not settled until the very day of PIR.  We were extremely lucky in that out sailor did not ship out to GC until the Tuesday after PIR.  We live in the Chicago area so we were so lucky to see him every day during that time.  As for the airports, they mostly go out of O'hare as was said.  Timing is hard to say.  Our sailor left Great Lakes around 2AM and his flight left around 6.  O'hare is very military friendly with a great USO and many people spend time there before their sailors head down to GC.

Great picture Bob! Congrats to your son and all in his section. Will you be going to the graduation? How soon do they leave for Ballston Spa?

This is our Matt's Graduation photo of his Section at the Goose Creek Nuclear Power School. Matt and the other sailors graduate this Friday 8/23. Then it is off to Ballston Spa for Matt for Proto Type School

Had a nice chat with sailor son tonight - classes are going well. Says to hold off on shipping car for now. Fine with me - one less thing to worry about.
Got college son moved back into the dorms today - house is quiet!

LukeH, I currently have Geico, but I think USAA likely works the same way.  We dropped our sailor from our policy as soon as he shipped out for BC.  Even if he were to come home on leave, he would still be covered under our policy just like any other visitor we granted permission to use the car.  However, when he is ready to buy another car (whenever that is) we are going to add him back as a driver on OUR policy and then immediately carve him out to start his own policy with Geico.  (Obviously if between now and then USAA proves a better deal, then we won't have to go through this step.)  This way he benefits from our long term relationship with our current insurer and it does serve to help lower his rates a bit.  Hope this helps.
