My son just finish prototype and went out with the Ike.  He bought a car in A school and was able to travel on most weekends.  Go to the Power School graduation if possible.

I'll echo mongst's comment. My son should also finish power school on Friday.

My two other sons and I went to SC last Memorial day weekend and the boy was actually able to stay with us the entire weekend. He didn't have to return to base at night. That might have to do with it being a long weekend and his class standing at the time. He was still in ET A School and was doing very well at the time.

But, yeah, you'll see and hear much more from him once he's out of boot camp.

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to seeing and hearing from him more

Hi Harold, yes you will. They can have their cell phone (though they can not bring it in to the "classroom building". Also, unless they have watch, (depending on what phase they are in) they have weekends off and can leave base (with certain restriction based on phase)

Hello Harold,  My son Mike is in SC now,  will graduate Power school on Friday.  You can definitely  be in contact more often.  We talk on the phone every weekend when he is not in study hours.  When we went down to visit last year  we were able to see him in the evening after classes , unless he had duty that night.  We also were able to  see him all day Saturday and Sunday.  He did early morning study hours and had to be bac on base at 9PM.  When he first gets to SC his time off is limited but the longer he is there the restrictions ease up.  Congratulations .

Hi everyone my son is in 3-1 of bootcamp. When he gets to SC are we able to get in touch with him more? Does he get more time off so that we may be able to see him. Thanks

I was able to give my son his cell phone at Ohare. I was able to spend extra time visiting with my son at the USO while at Ohare.

Technically they have left the command of the basic training once they are dropped off at Ohare.

Your sailor can go thru the steps to get you checked thru security so you can spend some extra time with them at the gate.have them get details at USO.

They have to be careful and not take any kind of recording device into Nimitz study area once at Goose Creek, that also means cameras on cell phones.

Ok thanks! That sounds good.

Unless rules have changed, yes. Some families give their Sailor their cell phone and laptop at O'Hare prior to flying to SC. See Nuke School at Goose Creek for additional information.

Yes but you have to hold it until you meet them at the airport. My daughter PIR in October and is a little more then 1/2 way through it.
