My son's scheduled to graduate Jan 25, then headed to Charleston. I appreciate the credits & TESC you guys shared here. He's good at finding out what he needs, but I'll save this info for him.
Jonathan, I wondered about them having to be up a 0 dark and then killing time all day. I suspect the reasoning has more to do with transporting 300+ sailors out of RTC and getting ready for the next batch. Simply my thoughts.
I have to agree with the others. When my son had his PIR in August we got gate passes and waited with him until the plane loaded to Charleston. He also had to be there at 0400 and the flight left late afternoon or at least it was supposed to. We had the only T-Storm of the summer that day and delayed his flight for about 2 hours on the ground. That was unforseeable but am wondering why thye have to be at the airport for 12 hours before the plane leaves.
I must add that we are from the Chicago suburbs and also say that O'Hare is extremely military friendly. Our sailor has been in for just about four years now and has flown through O'Hare many times and every time the people at whatever airline he is flying and the personnel at the airport itself have been wonderful and extremely accommodating. No question, ask about gate passes and they will be given gladly. We could not be more pleased with O'Hare and thank them greatly.
Robert, My daughter had her PIR in October and then went down to Charleston. After her PIR she had leave until 7pm. Then she left for the airport around 4:30am Saturday. We did spend the whole day at the airport with her until she boarded her plane around 6pm. Our whole group (mom, me and friends) got courtesy passes to go to the gate. Just make sure you have ID and you have to go thorough security. The airport has a special entrance just for our military and there families to go through. I have to say that airport security and the airport staff in general, could not do enough to help us and make us feel very special.
New toNavy Dads. My daughter is graduating Dec 28th and headed to A school in Charleston. She says she may get leave time from graduation till noon on Sunday Jan 6th. Sure hoping to spend the week with her.
Congrats Joshua!
Yep he still has 2 more years on the Tennessee then he wants to head back to GC and teach.
Bravo Zulu Joshua !!!
Talked to my son last night and he advised he is re-enlisting. He'll start his paperwork on Monday.
