My son is currently in power school at Goose Creek and is scheduled to graduate at the end of October. He will then be on grad hold
until prototype school. He is then hoping for HT A school. Now for the $64 dollar question. My son wants to go on a boomer so at what point would he go to BESS?

Interesting... He just drove it here from KB (his 1st long drive), and I've done CT-FL, but I've never done the northwest passage. I used to do 400+ mi and 4hr of skiing in a day, when I was young and crazy.

I guess we'll talk it over as a family tonight. TY

I'm guessing Washington, I just looked it up on google...2 days, yeah, only if you are a cross country truck driving team, and you don't stop, If you make 600 miles a day, which will be about 10 hrs of hard driving, it will take you 5 days to get there...personally, I would allow for 6 days, or better yet, fly him out there, so that way he can spend more time with the family, and then you drive his car out to him, right now, with all the airfare discounts, it shouldn't be very much to fly him out there, if you have never done a big cross country trip, you are in for a big surprise, I was exhausted, when I took 2 hard driving days, from Washington state to Minnesota. Good luck!!!

Is that Washington state, or Maine ?

Michael & I will be leaving for Bangor in a few days. Google Maps says: 2 days 0 Hours from southwest Connecticut. We're going to allow 4 days for the drive. Does that sound like enough?

I hate to cut his time with his mom & sister short, and I don't want to risk not getting him there on time either.

My wife and I are visiting our son at Sub School in Groton. We are staying at the Navy Lodge and having a GREAT time.

Thanks for the update Jim, I believe this to be the reason, they want to treat him, but won't be able to monitor his progress, which would be hard to do, on board a sub. It's just a real bummer, that they took away his LS rating, he completed his "A" school before reporting to Groton, what a waste of time and money, so now he will be reporting to the surface fleet un-rated...make's no sense?

Thanks Dads. I appreciate all the input. I will pass on the info about acne to my son who has a little. Hopefully it won't affect him, because he REALLY wants to earn his dolphins. So far he really enjoys the Groton area and is hoping to be stationed there. He was told 'A' school will finish early Sept. He and fellow sailors went to NYC for fleet week yesterday. The initial input was they had a great time and that a lot of tourists asked to take their pictures. God bless everyone and especially all who have served our country. Randy L.

What would acne have to do with him serving ??? My son is in RTC now heading for groton next.....He has some pimples should he see a doctor before going ? He wears glasses ? will this hinder him ?

I don't know, why it would stand in the way of my son serving, but it wouldn't hurt, to have your son, get an appointment as soon as he reports to Groton, my son has gone through several physical's and hasn't had an issue, until the last week of training.
My son has been told, he will not be on Sub's, and that he will be transfer to the surface fleet??
