Wow, what a kick in the teeth, my son, today, one week from graduating Submarine school, has a med. appointment, they informed him, that he has been medically disqual. for submarine service, due to moderate acne...he's not a happy sailor :(

MY grand son will be leaving Groton soon heading for his boat and first real Navy duty station, (Point Loma) San Diego, Ca. makes me wish Iwas young again. I have enjoyed the comments and information from this site.

Randy, my started his ET training in March, '09, and ended Groton three schools later, in Dec.'09. (Not including BESS, before that.) Then he went on to advanced RadioMan School in Jan '10. He got under a few weeks ago and is now a proud NUB working his tail off, earning his Fish. He is not Navigation as such, but he is an ET nonetheless; hope this may help. Cordially, john sr.

My son starts his A-school today. He is planning on becoming an electronic tech. navigation. How long does this schooling take? He has already been in Groton since early Nov.

Dan,
Most of the cell companies have air cards. I have mine through Sprint and it costs $60 per month unlimited data. I have not found too many places it does not work. If you have cell signal, you have internet.

My son called Sunday, I asked him why he didn't E-mail us and he said he didn't have ready access to the internet. He has a new Mac computer but is unable to connect it to the internet on a regular basis.
Is there a wireless/satellite service that he could subscribe to (such as AT&T)?
By the way, I appreciate Navy Dad's.

Dear Jim,

Congratulations to your son for passing Boot Camp. My son just finished one year of four different classes to obtain ET, Radio Man. I think his BESS was about eight weeks; it may vary depending on what unforeseen variables impact the training. He goes to his Boat FINALLY tomorrow - I have the Blessing of driving him to Kings Bay myself. Then, one thousand feet under the ocean, ...... Tell your son to go to Boston, Newport, and Mystic, etc., while he is able to. NYC , as well.

Cordially, john
