Michael came home this weekend -- He said he got his "Blue Card" a week or so ago. I was asking him about all the school / letter designations trying to get a handle on the whole thing. So much alphabet soup, I think they do it on purpose to keep people guessing ;^)

Perhaps by time he hits the fleet I'll be able to summarize it... ^_^

General Observations from John, Sr.:

My son, John, will start his "A"School class, next Tues., the 25th. I think he will be an "ET", but i can't be sure, because he also tells me they have him slated for "Radio School". when i do the research for "Radio Tech", it comes up "IT" , that is , Information Tech / Specialist. so therefore, i can't be sure what he is telling me ! God Bless him. He starts his final phase of training next week, and then , when that is through, he gets assigned to a Boat somewhere around the world. I am so proud of him. He's a great kid - a great young man.

He finished his classes on the 7th and shipped to Kings Bay on the 14th. We live in Washington State so neither is an option. He does want his car, and I may have to drive it cross country to get it to him.

Hi Carl,

My son will be heading for "MT"? school after BESS. Are MT classes that few and far between? Do you know if it's normal practice to send students to their next class base ASAP or do they stay at their last assignment until classes are ready?

The reason I'm asking... Are you close to Kings Bay, GA at least? We're close to Groton, CT and given the option (heh heh), would rather have him spend a waiting period up here rather than down there.

Two months sounds like a long time to wait for classes. It's not like they are tied to the academic year or anything.

My son just shipped from BESS to C School in Kings Bay, GA last Friday. He has been told that he will probably be on a two month hold until his classes start. I'm assuming that they are waiting for enough sailors for his Missle Tech class.

my grandson just arrived at Groton and is attending BESS can someone tell me what BESS is and what schools are next (I know he is slated to attend SECF school)

Question? My youngest son just joined the Navy and left for Great Lakes last week. Last weekend we went up to Groton and visited his older brother (BESS). We are wondering .... can he change to Submarine Service? Jake enlisted for the advanced electroncis program. Jake was really impressed with the submarine sevice. Thanks jim

John all the best wishes down in Maryland! thanks keep in touch I will be going back to Groton week after next to see Jordan. Will be taking his young brother to look around. He also will be going to basic training at Great Lakes this august. By the way if you stay at Groton Looking to lodging at the navy lodging facility. Make a reservation but The price is half of what you will pay at the other hotels in the area. The people are great. Your son will have to sign you in. Thanks have a safe trip Sir. jim
