My Sailor receive a package in 2 weeks i was shock! but happy all the same
Thanks Edith
Vicki-they are out there, but he may be really busy. I hear from my husband daily through email, but he has a computer at his desk. Most of the sailors have to wait for a computer and phone. Hang in there, they will be in port soon and hopefully he will call you.
Has anyone heard from their sailor's it's been almost 8 weeks since I heard anything from my son, I've sent him 2 care packages and I guess I just want to know if he got them. this is the first time that Ihaven't heard from him. I usally get an e-mail but nothing in the past 8 weeks
@ Timothy- It is called general duty and yes, they all do it. It may be galley duty, laundry, hull maintenance you name it. The new ones have to do it and is usually a few months. Not to worry, my third son (and 3rd in Navy) leaves in a few months. My 2nd son is attached to VFA-2 there on the Lincoln.
Thanks Edith, He's my oldest and I find it hard getting used to him being on his own but I'm trying. Oldest daughter starts collage next fall...lots of stuff to get used too
Timothy- He owes time to the ship. My husband has been in the Navy for 15 years and all new sailors, not new to the ship, but new to the Navy, have a few "Chores" to complete. Laundry duty, mess deck duty, and a few others. It is a way for the new sailors to learn and earn respect onboard. Every enlisted sailor has had to do it. Don't worry, he is not in trouble and it will even show up on his eval that he completed his time and whether he did a good job at it or not.
OK because I really don't know anything about serving in the Navy I got a question. I heard from my son, who is on his first cruise with his squadron, and he said he is working in the ships laundry for the rest of the cruise. I think I remember reading some time ago that new sailors owed time to the ship. Is that right or did something happen that they don’t want him on the flight deck or what? He says its extra cash and he likes it, I’m just being a dad and wondering.
Ouch...that's great.
What's next, dates.
