without looking here...."challenge" coins are awarded to sailors for performing their duties at a exemplary level or for performing a duty or task that is typically above and beyond what they are called on to do. Son Eric has two Admiral's coins from his cruise on the Theodore Roosevelt

Ok, so here goes the question o prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that I haven't a clue. The latest FB has some very nice pictures (I hope your sons and daughters are in them so you can see 'em) of our sailors. The question, is "What does the coin presentation with the CO mean"??

As for "River City" I am told it's a communications reduction scale

if you read the most recent posts in the Care Package Group at http://www.navydads.com/group/carepackagesforourtroops I've got the format of the address I used when my daughter was on the "Abe".

This is from USPS.gov:

Military Restrictions
For specific restrictions and mailing prices to an APO/FPO/DPO address, visit the Price Calculator. You can also call 1-800-ASK-USPS or consult your local Post Office™.

What address should I use to send packages and/or "snail mail" to my sailor aboard the Abe Lincoln? How are postage costs determined?
Thanx for any help you can provide (I've searched this site and didn't find it - maybe I overlooked it).

The only meaning I'm aware of is the "River City Marketplace" in Jacksonville, FL. My son was assigned to the USS Hue City (CG-66, Guided Missile Cruiser - he served 7 months in the Persian Gulf aboard her). We live at Lake Tapps in Western Washington and took a Tiger Cruise upon the ship's return to Port Canaveral - cruised from Port Canaveral to Naval Station Mayport at Jacksonville. We went to River City Marketplace several times while we were there (spent about 10 days in Jacksonville). A very popular spot for sailors and locals.

Hey Kirk, good for you to see your daughter. The hard copy will be a nice thing to have too. I hope to see a picture of Matt just to make sure he hasn't fallen off.

As for the River City question.
Not being a Navy guy I'm admitting to be clueless. So it really is a sailor question, apparently the terminology River City has some sort of indication as to the level of messaging and communication with the outside world???

The funny thing was that we weren't sure at first since she's changed so much over the last year. I finally decided it was her and then she emailed me to let me know. she's going to send us a hard copy of the newsletter also.
