Good point, Dave. Last year my son, Brice, spent 7 months aboard CG-66 (Guided Missile Cruiser - USS Hue City) in the Persian Gulf. He returned home with a world of experiences and pictures of places I'll never have the opportunity to see first-hand - passing through the Straits of Gibralter at sunrise, the Wailing Wall in Israel, the Mount of Olives and tours of ancient synagogues (many with elaborate catacombs), snow-skiing at the indoor ski resort at the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, and a thousand more. Also, many pictures of the typical work day on-board and some of the celebrations and events held to maintain morale. I was also fortunate enough to join him on a "tiger cruise" from Port Canaveral to Mayport Station (Jacksonville, FL). We departed from the Trident pier at Port Canaveral, passing numerous subs - and commercial cruise ships - along the way out. Great fun and a real treat to meet so many of his comrades. Part of my son's duties actually involved "driving the ship" so I was able to spend a lot of time on the bridge with him.

Hope all the young men and women get a chance to do a little sight seeing and get some great photos. These are the places that they might never have seen in their entire life if they took a different path.

Web cam of the Abe was nice. Don't know if it was the camera or overcast but it wasn't as clear as one would hope. Praying for their safe return and to have a life enhancing trip.

Good news on the $50K. I found a webcam over looking the harbor and got to watch the departure from work. (In snippets at least)

And they're off and running. Once they all get joined up it will be fun to see them working as a team. Going to miss them all, but there will be some adventurous times for all. Pray that they all come home safely and the deploy will be a success. Heard great news at least scuttlebutt . Molly's adopt a sailor program won $50,000 from Pepsi. What a great job by a nice lady. Hope all of you were able to speak with your sailors before the deploy. I missed the pod cast of the Abe departing. I hope most saw it. "Fair winds and Following seas"

Almost just as amazing is the restaurant directly ahead called Ivers and to the left, not seen here is the Diamond Knot brewery, good brews, stumbled out of there when I took my son up to Everett.
