At MEPS in San Diego. He hasn't shared yet when he leaves for basic, his job will be Missile Technician. I work in the South Bay, live in the Inland Empire.

Last time I've seen the Lakers was eons ago at the Forum in Inglewood with the old school crew and Magic Johnson. Those were the good old days hehe...
I was so ready to book my airline tix and accommodations to Anchorage, Alaska for the commissioning next week but I never got an answer from my son whether or not he's on duty for the event and if I should go ahead and dish out the precious dough hehe. I gather we all have to get used to the last minute notices the Navy is known for, if any, when it comes to being there for our loved ones. Oh well, I'm looking forward to his next leave hopefully soon...
Cheri, wow! you are a real LA sports fan! That's awsome. I hope you bring the Laker's some luck today because they need it.... They are playing so bad. It shows how important Kobe is to the team. Without him they're nothing. Sorry to say it but I think they're going to get swept by the Spurs in 4 games. :>( I'm in Irvine and have lived in OC for 15 years and haven't been to Disney once yet. LOL....
As much as I hate to admit it Cheri, I'm afraid you are right about the Laker game being ugly. Have you been able to visit your son in Groton? My oldest son attended the USGC Academy in New London, which is just across the river from the sub base.
My son has put in for San Diego twice and is now headed to Virginia, leaving Pearl Harbor. I once told him to put in for Lemoore Naval Air Station, and he told me they didn't need any submarine weapons techs there. I wonder why not?
@Cheri would be nicer if we're even closer to him hehe... Your son is learning how to drive a sub? Now that must be super awesome!
@John wow I didn't realize how much we have in common hehe. I've only gone fishing once on a boat out of Emeryville. I hit the limit and almost won the pot darn! ;)
I'd like to add my welcome as well Mike. Like Gary, I'm originally from SoCal, grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and worked on the border of Orange County in Long Beach and Bellflower for many years. Also like Gary, my wife and I are huge Disney Heads. We used to have annual passports, and when she was much younger and still had long blonde hair, Disneyland offered her a job to be Alice from Alice in Wonderland at the Park. I still do a lot of Long Range fishing out of San Diego, and fished up and down the coast from San Diego to Santa Barbara. One of my fishing buddies was the HMC on San Nicholas Island and ran the infirmary there. Before he retired I'd get to go out as a guest of the US Navy and fish out there. Now like Gary, I'm between San Francisco and Sacramento, about 40 miles northeast of him.
Again, welcome to the group!
Mike I'm originally from Chula Vista. It's been a treat that my son's homeport is at Naval Base San Diego. We've also lived in the Los Angeles area and now we're up north sandwiched between San Francisco and Sacramento hehe...
We love SoCal we're huge Disney heads ;)
Thanks Gary. Gald to be part of your group. I look forward to making friends with other proud California Navy parents.
