At MEPS in San Diego. He hasn't shared yet when he leaves for basic, his job will be Missile Technician. I work in the South Bay, live in the Inland Empire.

Hi Group: Anyone else here from Orange County? My SR is in boot camp right now and his PIR is in 3 weeks. I can't wait to go see him. I miss him so much! Proud to be part of this group. I'm also part of the MA group since that's what my SR is going to be.
Thanks Daniel, I appreciate your comments. 2 Fridays from today is PIR 05/10. Hopefully the weather is decent, it's 80s here in Lodi, I am spoiled living in California.
Yes, his letters seem to have a more mature message and he appears focused but he is also enjoying it. He wrote that Hell Week was just the same as all the other weeks.
He goes to P-Cola for 4 weeks. He is Airmen-PACT (undesignated) so should be an interesting time for him.
In RTC he is really enjoying the challenges, learning new things, stepping up to perform and do what is required of him and time with his fellow SRs and that is awesome for me to hear. So I believe you are right I believe he has changed.
Robert - sounds like your son is doing great in bootcamp. Glad you got all the letters. As others have said, you'll be amazed at the change when you see him after PIR. I could relate to the stress over the facebook page since our son was not a letter writer (none other than the form letter) for the whole time. We hung on scraps of info we gathered from our PIR facebook page and were jealous of the parents who received mail from their SR's. Now that our sailor is in A school though, we can Skype at times or talk on the phone.
FINALLY. Received letters from our SR today. He sent his letter to us, his journal writings and all of the letters from past weeks, so lots and lots of information.
So yes, he is/was the RCPO for Division 186 because the regular RCPO got ill, right before the drill inspections (great timing) so he was absolutely stressed and had to be a quick study for all that is required but the Petty Officers chose him after he and others tried out holding the cutlass and marching drill and he said he nailed it. He says it's a temporary assignment until the regular RCPO is cleared for Fit For Duty. He respects his RCPO and has no problem relinquishing his assignment back.
Hi Gary, thanks for the words of encouragement and support. I appreciate veteran advice from the people that have been there, done that and got the T-shirt.
I know, I know no news is good news and patience is a virtue and I am working on embracing these concepts.
It's still tough to not hear from him especially when I see the social networks site postings and all the people getting letters and updates from their SRs like "made Expert for their shooting skills and passed their PFA and academic test" and I have nothing to post back. I feel happy for them but it kinda sucks when I hear from another SRs family member on information about your own SR and how he is doing and what he did.
Probably going to stay away from FB for awhile.....NOT ha,ha.
Hey Robert when my son got home on leave after A School, he still had his BC stuff. He unloaded all of it here at home. Among the things he handed me were half written letters and scribbles that was obviously never sent off hehe... Yes they have their plates full I'm sure. BZ to your SR for the RCPO leadership position!
Ugh, usually get a letter from my SR by this time but none today maybe tomorrow. It is unlike him since the start of boot camp allowing letter writing for us to receive at least one letter a week.
Even though graduation is 2 weeks away (PIR 05/10) I still would like to hear from him before the " I am a Sailor" call.
I heard rumor through a family member of an SR friend of his in a Brother Division, that he took over as the RCPO for his Division 186 so maybe that is his excuse for not writing. It must be he is so busy with his duties and responsibilities and that's the reason for no letter makes me feel better thinking this way. I miss the big guy.
Congrats again Cheri and nice photo of your son!
I'm not exactly sure but I'm going to take a guess at those medals he's got from left to right: National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Rifle Marksmanship Medal.
Thanks Scott & Gary. Looking forward to connecting & getting to know the group. Take care.
