At MEPS in San Diego. He hasn't shared yet when he leaves for basic, his job will be Missile Technician. I work in the South Bay, live in the Inland Empire.

That's terrific!.  We moved to the Woodland Area in 2004, and my 3 sons were already out of high school.  My youngest son scored very high on his ASVAB scores and wanted to be a nuke, but he was 26 when he enlisted, and the Navy had an age limit of 24.  His recruiter tried twice to get an age waiver, but no go.  However, a young man that grew up with my oldest son enlisted right after high school in 1999 and became a nuke.  I was a Scout Master for many years when my boys were growing up, and this young man was the first to make Eagle Scout while I was Scout Master.  He served for several years on the Ronald Reagan, and is now serving on the Carl Vinson. He's taking the Chief's exam again this year and I hope he makes it.

It would be something if your son gets assigned to the Nimitz after he finishes his schools.  Then our boys would be shipmates!

Thank you all for the welcome!  John - seems as though there are a lot of Navy families in the area.  My son has a friend from H.S. in Woodland that he got to enlist as Nuke who's off to RTC in June or July.

Daniel Welcome to the group! I echo Gary Gayer's comment and good to hear that your son is expected to be cleared soon...

Howdy neighbor! We live just west of Woodland on County Road 95.  Our son is an FC-3 on CVN-68

We're from Woodland, CA (Near Sacramento & Davis) and our son graduated from boot camp Feb. 8.  He's still at GL on a medical hold in the THU but things are going pretty well and we expect him to be cleared soon.  He's a Nuke so when he's ready, he'll be off to A School in Charleston.

Also visit the USS Midway when in San Diego. It's a beautiful piece of history.

Stephen, we've stayed at these two places nothing fancy just comfy and convenient. Both a few miles away from 32nd St. -- Naval Base San Diego. I always like "free" parking whenever possible...

Courtyard San Diego Airport/Liberty Station nice place, take a stroll at the The Esplanade Public Coast Access. Free Starbucks Coffee for hotel guests!

Wyndham Garden San Diego a couple of minutes away from SeaWorld. Onsite Du-par's Restaurant & Bakery open 24-hours. Phil's BBQ is right across the street and plenty of cheap dining options around the area.
